Fly-fishing, a technique adapted to all coastal situations

© Fred Brilloux

The technique of fly fishing is quite simple and suitable for all types of fishermen, beginners or not. This lure fishing allows you to catch nice fish (sea bass, garfish, mackerel) even from the shore.

In the sea the majority of fish are carnivorous. An undeniable advantage for lure fishing. Here are some basic elements to practice fly fishing. This technique aims to move a soft lure at mid-depth.

Opt for lightness

We can practice on board as well as in a boat up to 6/7 meters deep with success.

A light rod from 2 m to 2.20 m in 10/30 g for versatility. But if you want to fish more ligthly a 5/20 g will do the job. A reel in size 2500/3000 with a braid of a diameter between 8/100th and 13/100th.

Decoys

We use flexible lures of elongated shape from 7 to 12 cm without appendix for hydrodynamism:

Arming

In order to give the lure an erratic swimming action, it is necessary to equip the lure with an oblong or pointed sinker head so as to split the water layer to go down quickly. Other lead heads of concave shape are used, the Lipweight Storm or the Vibr'action Flashmer, they twirl and look like the swimming of small sandeels.

For the weights, choose the lightest possible according to the current and the depth.

From 5 g to 30 g.

Important a drop of glue on the head of the lure is necessary to maintain it well on the lead head.

Animation

It consists in propelling the lure as far as possible, letting it go down close to the bottom and bringing it back in short quick jerks while going back up to half height. We stop so that the lure can go down a little and we print again sharp and fast strokes to the lure. A steady pace with rhythmic changes is effective.

With concave lead heads, you need to animate more slowly, because with each shot the lateral slides are naturally amplified. They have a gliding effect on the descent.

The hits are most often on the way down.

Accuracy

We must attach a leader between the braid of the reel and the lure or the lure hook. A fluorocarbon of 20 to 30/100th and of 2 m length will be a good compromise.

Thus equipped you can go fishing for sea bass, garfish, mackerelâ?¦

Council

The lighter you are, the more effective you will be at this technique.
