Flashmer, which is accustomed to organizing its Open Kids events in a maritime setting?notably during the Mille Sabords boat show?chose in 2026 to adapt the concept to freshwater. This inaugural event took place in a particularly spectacular setting, across from the Château de Val, while the Mercury Fishing Cup IV At the same time, it brought together adult competitors.
Organized by Flashmer , represented on site by Alexis Chatelain, in partnership with the Corrèze Fishing Federation (FDAAPPMA 19) , this Open Kids event had one main goal: to introduce the younger generations to sport fishing and the spirit of competition.
17 young fishermen showed up
In total, 17 participants aged 8 to 16 turned out in force. Under sunny summer skies and facing exceptionally clear water, the young competitors were able to use the lures provided by Flashmer.
The rules had been deliberately designed to be simple and accessible: each centimeter of fish caught was worth one point. This format preserved the spirit of a true competition while emphasizing discovery, enjoyment, and camaraderie.
However, the fish decided to make things difficult for the young fishermen.
During the morning session , which had 11 participants, no catches were recorded. To determine the winner, the organizers then held a target-shooting accuracy contest. Hugo proved to be the most skilled and won this first round, as well as a casting fishing set provided by Flashmer.

A 20.6-cm perch makes all the difference
That afternoon, six young fishermen returned to the water's edge. This time, a catch would finally get the tally started.
Kélian manages to take a 20.6 cm perch , which would remain the only fish caught that day. That catch was enough to secure his victory in this second round.
Beyond the results, this first edition above all gave children and teenagers the opportunity to share their passion in the setting of a major national competition.

An initiative with the potential to grow?
By hosting this Open Kids event, the Mercury Fishing Cup is also expanding its role. The MFC is no longer just an event reserved for experienced crews; it can also become a place for younger participants to discover and learn from the experience.
With 17 young participants in this first edition of Fresh Water , Flashmer and its partners are thus laying the groundwork for a promising event. It?s a concrete way to pass on a passion for fishing?as well as its sporting values?to the competitors of tomorrow.
