The first key point concerns the equipment. A short, sturdy rod designed for deep-sea fishing remains the best choice, paired with an electric reel capable of handling long lengths of braided line. When fishing in the deep sea, you?re often targeting depths that exceed 200 meters and can go well beyond that, depending on the area.
The rig must be simple, sturdy, and suited to the current. A strong leader, hooks sized appropriately for the target species, and a sufficiently heavy sinker are essential for keeping the bait in place. In practice, the weight of the sinker can vary greatly depending on the depth and strength of the current. The goal is to maintain contact with the bottom without letting the line drift uncontrollably.
Let the editing do its work
From a technical standpoint, you must first sound out the area, identify structure breaks, and check the current direction before lowering the rig. Once at the bottom, you tighten the line, then let the rig do its work with subtle movements or simply let it sit, depending on the bait used. At these depths, carefully reading the fish finder and the bottom topography is often more effective than aggressive movement.
Another Fishing Experience
An electric reel primarily changes the fishing experience during the retrieve. It saves time, reduces arm fatigue, and allows you to retrieve heavy rigs more smoothly, which becomes crucial during long or repeated fishing sessions. However, it does not eliminate the need for proper organization on board: a reliable battery, electrical safety precautions, clear space, and protective gloves are still recommended.
