The Frazer Ranger EVO 170, the latest iteration of a cult model among float-tube anglers, marks the comeback of this made-in-Frazer boat, distributed by Pacific Pêche.

A direct successor to the acclaimed Ranger 170, this "EVO" version refines its strengths while correcting its weaknesses: reinforced rigid baggage, dedicated motor rail and more robust PVC inferior. With generous dimensions (170 cm long, 120 cm wide, 30 cm-diameter tubes), it can support up to 180 kg, ideal for sessions loaded with lures, probes and livewells.

Comfort and manoeuvrability

On board, the high-pressure inflatable seat (dropstitch) and raised bottom place the angler above the water, minimizing splashes and maximizing comfort on long drifts. The pronounced V-shape ensures a smooth glide and outstanding swivel, even with flippers on or oars in hand. Anti-abrasion (rubber) reinforcements on the underside and sides protect against rocks and weeds, while two high-pressure valves facilitate maintenance. Weighing in at just 15 kg (compared with 11 kg for the old model), it's still easy to carry despite its extra strength.

Complete equipment for the connected angler

The EVO 170 shines with its removable arsenal: sounder holder, rod holder and electric motor base (up to 30 lbs tested successfully), plus two spacious EVA side pockets.

What's new? A durable hard case for organizing rods, cans and electronics without the risk of compression. Oars and foot pump are included, and a carry bag is supplied. Everything's ready for a trip to the lake, pond or river. Compatible with a "special float-tube" motor, the EVO 170 opens the door to electric propulsion without sacrificing stability.

Tests and field feedback

In the field, opinions are unanimous: rock-solid stability (a viral test shows a jump with no foiling!), sturdiness against rubbing and unbeatable value for money at around ?450-500. Its versatility for lure fishing, both linear and vertical, in calm waters, is commendable.

Verdict: a mature choice for 2026

For the demanding float-tuber (pike, zander...), the Ranger EVO 170 ticks all the boxes: upgradeable, reliable, high-performance. Frazer's evolution is a success, built to last in the face of low-cost competition.
