New Slide Swimmer 145
The New slide swimmer is available in 5 sizes: 115, 145, 175, 250 and 300 millimeters. Size 145, for 14.5 centimetres, is particularly relevant as it represents the typical bite of a good number of predators, including pike and black-bass. As such, this version is clearly the most suitable for our waters, if you want a lure capable of catching both species, while being easy to use!
The design of the lure remains the same: a plastic body covered with a synthetic "skin", for a unique and super convincing result! The role of this skin is to give a different texture to the fish, once they have the lure in their mouth, and to improve its glide underwater.
The resulting swimming action is fluid and silent, to eliminate as far as possible the artificial aspects of a plastic lure. There's no clattering between sections on retrieve, and no noisy beads. The only noise deliberately created by this lure comes from the "micro vibe" system, which consists in creating micro-vibrations, more discreet than traditional balls.
The lure swims at a constant speed, forming an S shape which can be enhanced with a few strokes of the tip to get the lure moving more energetically to one side or the other. Its density allows you to take breaks without the lure sinking too quickly. As far as swimming is concerned, it's worth noting that the higher you go in the available lengths, the larger the S pattern becomes, and the slower it is to execute. This 145 version accepts all retrieve speeds pretty well.
The lure features many details, from fins and scale patterns to eyes, to match a real fish as closely as possible. This resemblance is valid both visually and technically, with a lure that emits little noise.
What's more, even the colors offered are in keeping with this philosophy, and the majority of them - unfortunately limited to 4 for the 145 - are beautiful imitations of real species. There are carp and black-bass imitations, as well as a fire tiger, which has nothing to do with the real thing, but is nonetheless a must-have.
Use
The intermediate size of 14.5 centimetres makes this version of the New Slide Swimmer very versatile. You can use this lure to fish for pike and black-bass, while using an XH rod. The realistic look you're after with this lure can be either extremely effective or not at all suitable for the moment. The use of this lure is closely linked to the fishing location and conditions. As a general rule, this is the lure to use in clear waters, on fish that are difficult to approach and/or lure.
For the record, this lure was designed in Japan for black-bass fishing in translucent waters where fish take their time to observe before attacking. So we can better understand the original design of this lure, and especially its unique skin.
My opinion
The intermediate size of the Deps classic is certainly the perfect version for discovering this lure. Its swimming action is very convincing, given its rather small size for a glide bait. Although each size of this lure bears the same name, that of new slide swimmer, each length behaves differently and it's not just a question of size and build that differentiates them, but also the associated swimming and speed, which makes them complementary.
