I have tested... / Illex Vividus: a lure that perfectly imitates a fish's swimming action

The Vividus is realistic! © likid fishing

The Vividus from Illex is a soft swimbait that brings innovation to a lure category in which we thought we'd already seen it all! Both the swimming action and the material used are original for the most realistic rendering possible.

Vividus

The Vividus is a soft swimbait with no internal sinker. It's made from a highly flexible plastic and, unusually, it floats! This flexibility allows the lure to deform when sucked in by a fish, resulting in a more successful strike.

The rubber used is original!
The other advantage of this flexibility is that the particular flutter created by the wide tail is transmitted to the head of the lure. The result is a lure that undulates from head to tail, rather than just a tail that swims, as is often the case with shad-type soft swimbaits.
La queue bouge peu.
The tail moves very little.
At first sight, the lure swims in a straight line with little vibration, which is rather disconcerting as you don't feel it working in the rod. But on closer inspection, the lure has a realistic swimming action, similar to that of a real fish, which will encourage attacks and reduce following fish.
Its balance is achieved thanks to three inserts which you have to place yourself at belly level, making it slow sinking.

A diagram shows where to place the internal seals.
The lure can also be weighted lightly with a lead clip placed around the belly ring. To maintain the lure's appeal for slow shallow fishing, we recommend weights of between 2 and 6 grams.
The rigging is well thought-out and not over-dimensioned. It consists of a single treble hook located centrally on the belly. What's more, this hook is connected by a rolling swivel to limit stalls.
The Vividus has three attachment points. The first is on the head, as we're used to seeing, to make it swim straight.
La finition est soignée.
The finish is meticulous.
The other two attachment points are located on each side, for drop-shot-style mounting, with the main line on one side and a piece of line with a sinker on the other. This set-up allows the lure to swim sideways to imitate a dying fish.

It can be mounted as a drop shot.
The five colors on offer are the same as those found on several Illex lure references and meet the needs of freshwater anglers. They include a fire tiger, two perch, a roach and a white.

The quality of the print is noteworthy, as is its durability, especially since we're talking about a soft lure here!

Use

The Vividus is to be used as it is, in a straight line at slow speed. It is particularly suited to shallow-water fishing, such as in small rivers or over weed beds. Target species are clearly black bass and pike.

My opinion

The Vividus really brings something new to ready-to-use soft swimbaits, both in its flexibility and in its swimming action! The colors and size of the 14.5-centimeter lure perfectly match the prey our predators are used to hunting!
