  • Rules: fishing is prohibited in harbors and within 250 m of a fishing boat or bathing area.
  • Protected areas: several marine reserves around Mallorca are subject to stricter regulations, and it is important to respect the specific prohibitions, which can be consulted in a booklet issued with the permit.

Techniques and species

On the island of Mallorca, you can fish both from the shore and by boat. However, boat fishing allows you to seek out a large number of beautiful fish such as bluefin tuna and dolphinfish. You can embark on organized trips lasting from half a day to a full day. Rates vary from ?95 to over ?1,000, depending on duration and type of boat (shared or private).

The most popular techniques are trolling, jigging, bottom fishing (longline) and light trolling, depending on the season.

Many species can be targeted: bluefin tuna (subject to regulations, often no-kill), dolphinfish (mahi-mahi), albacore tuna, grouper, wolffish, sea bream, conger eel, squid, scorpion fish, and more.

Spring and summer are ideal for tuna and albacore, while autumn (September-October) is ideal for dolphinfish; bottom fishing is available all year round.
