Different target species
The beetles very active in summer, they live in small shoals and are often the first to attack the bait. Their small mouths require fine hooks.
The sarrans (or serrans), more solitary, unsuspecting, they bite close to the bottom and compete with girelles.
The wheelers (Less aggressive, they arrive more slowly on the bait and also require smaller hooks.

Techniques and advice
Itinerant fishingâeuros¯: it is advisable not to remain static on a single rock, but to prospect several spots, moving every 10 to 20 meters, as fish quickly become wary after the first few catches.
Anti-hookup mounts¯: it's also preferable to use specific sinkers such as Tyrolean sinkers (tube sinkers with a vertical plastic part) or buckshot sinkers which limit snags on the bottom. You can also use a breakaway rig with a more resistant leader so that only the lead is lost in the event of a snag.
Fishing by the corkful or the poséâeuros¯: cork fishing allows the bait to move just above the bottom, limiting snags while remaining attractive to the fish.
Summer behavior of rockfish
In summer, with rising water and heat, rockfish are very active, feeding frantically close to shore. They are often visible or detectable by eddies or movements in shallow rocky areas.
The different devicesâeuros¯Ã employ
Worms, small pieces of shrimp, peeled mussels, shellfish meat - there are plenty of easy-to-obtain baits that effectively attract rockfish.

Summer rock-fish fishing in the Mediterranean is a dynamic and convivial activity, requiring mobility, adapted equipment to limit losses and a good knowledge of the species and their behavior. It offers varied and colorful catches, with techniques accessible from both shore and boat.
