Useful accessories
Like other brands, Galaxy Kayaks relies on Railblaza for accessories. The catalog is one of the most extensive. While some accessories are rather confidential in their usefulness, many have their uses for the greatest number of us.
The one that will find a place on every kayak is undoubtedly the rod holder. They come in a variety of shapes, including short, raised, 360° rotating, double and triple for rest racks.
Another "must-have" accessory is the signal pennant, which can also be replaced by the visibility kit, to which a signal light can be added at the end of the mast, very useful in times of restricted visibility.
Equipping your fishing kayak with a depth sounder
If you're buying a fishfinder, almost all fishing kayaks now feature a transducer well under the hull to accommodate the transducer. The sounder's screen will find its place on a platform that will adapt to the screen's size and weight. Large screen models can weigh a certain amount, and the dedicated support platform will be installed accordingly.
For kayaks not equipped with sounding wells, there are external sounding arm systems, handy if you have several fishing kayaks, to switch from one to another quickly. These various screen platforms can be mounted on extendable arms, which can be rotated in all directions using the R-Lock system, for example. These accessories can be mounted on star receivers, which in turn are attached to rails or inserts molded into the hull. These receivers can be horizontal or vertical, and there are even E series with a power supply for connecting screens, cameras or cell phones.
Make fishing easier for yourself
Other accessories can make fishing easier, depending on your needs and desires.
I'll mention the Stowpods, personally I like to have one in which I put the lures that have been used during the session. I use the cleaning table mainly as a small picnic table for a snack at the end of the session.
Another accessory I recommend is the paddle holder. Clipped onto a rail or placed on the star receiver, it keeps the paddle away from the hull and makes it easier to grip. In my opinion, the rubber-band base system used on most kayaks is not optimal. You'll find all these accessories on railblaza brand catalog and much, much more.
An electric motor on your kayak
To complete the range of fishing kayaks, they can now also be fitted with electric propulsion motors. Here too, brands are planning ahead at the manufacturing stage, equipping their models with specific inserts to accommodate motor-carrying platforms. Torqeedo or 3LI are just two of the brands I've tested.
Lithium batteries are preferable to standard batteries, if only for weight reasons. While price is still an obstacle for most, they make up for it in their reliability and lifespan compared with conventional batteries.
Additional accessories
I'd also like to mention additional stabilizers. Very useful for beginners, for those who enjoy stand-up fishing or fly-fishing from a kayak, or for spearfishing enthusiasts to assist the ascent into the kayak.
Livewell lockers can be fitted on the stern, behind the seat, and serve as a livewell or storage for snacks, spare clothes, safety equipment or lure boxes. Galaxy Kayaks distributes the Vela Eola brand, which offers complete kits that can be adapted to suit the model of float and installed fairly easily. These are real sails that allow you to sail upwind upwind or very close-hauled.
Finally, think safety too, and avoid loading both sides of your kayak. Mount accessories on one side only, leaving one side free. Don't forget the number 1 accessory, the lifejacket.
