The world fly fishing championship takes place in France

World Fly Fishing Championship in France

The 43rd World Fly Fishing Championship will be held in France from June 22 to 30, 2024. See you in Occitania for this competition that brings together the best fly fishers from around the world.

An exceptional natural setting

The World Fly Fishing Championship will take place over five days of competition. No fewer than 30 national teams will be competing for the coveted title. In an exceptional natural setting, some 230 competitors and instructors will be competing in the departments of Ariège, Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales.

After a previous edition in Slovakia, France hosts the 43rd edition of the world championship. The event is organized by the FFPS (Fédération Française de Pêche Sportive), and the French team will be challenging for the title.

A special edition

This 43rd edition will be a special one, as it will take place in different sectors and biotopes. There will be three sectors on rivers (the Aude, the Vicdessos and the Têt). And two sectors on mountain lakes (Carlit massif and Camporells massif) where a selection of several lakes has been made. Access to these lakes, situated at altitudes of over 2200m, requires a high level of physical fitness, and this will be an important consideration for all competitors aiming for the podium this year. What's more, all the selected sectors are under heritage management. This means that stocking or releasing fish is strictly forbidden, so the 230 competitors will have to measure themselves against wild fish.

The official event village is located in the commune of Font-Romeu, along with 3 relay villages in the more distant competition areas of Tarascon/Ariège (on the Vicdessos), Prades (on the Têt) and Quillan (on the Aude). These villages will welcome the many spectators, curious onlookers and tourists alike. Numerous events will be organized for the general public, including conferences on the environment, fishing activities, gourmet markets and visits to remarkable sites.
