I have tested... / Dowzone 220, the look of a glide bait and the swim of a stickbait

This lure is a surface stickbait! © Likid Fishing

The Dowzone 220, an innovative lure that blurs the lines between glide bait and floating stickbait, presents itself as a bold choice for anglers looking for originality. Discover how this lure can transform your vision of surface lures, despite the initial learning curve.

Dowzone 220

At first glance, the Dowzone 220 looks like a glide bait, with its single joint, flexible tail and 22-centimetre length. However, its appearance is deceptive, as it's more akin to a floating stickbait!

La finition du leurre est belle.
The lure is beautifully finished.

Hard as it may be to believe, the Dowzone 220, with its floating density, is indeed a surface stickbait, which animates in the same way to perform a walking-the-dog swim.

His walking the dog is special, as his bib makes him turn rapidly from left to right, but slows him down and limits the distance covered after each rod stroke, making him walk the dog tightly, almost on the spot. The bib even tends to bring the nose to the surface, giving the impression of a feeding or dying fish.

La bavette aide à l'animation.
The bib helps to animate.

To be honest, for the first five minutes I had this lure in the water, I thought I'd been fooled by false promises, because this lure simply doesn't swim and it requires a certain amount of adaptation to get it right.

It's essential to animate it with the rod, and to have the right tempo, neither too slow nor too fast. Linearized, it won't swim.

As for construction, Jackall's quality is as good as ever, with a number of features common to other Jackall lures.

Les nageoires dures agissent comme des stabilisateurs.
The hard fins act as stabilizers.

The lure is well finished, the colors are beautiful and the hooks are mounted on rolling swivels.

Use

The Dowzone 220 is used for sea bass fishing in Japan. Although its size wouldn't scare our European bass, who are capable of attacking mullets, we're not really used to using XXH rods for bass fishing.

In Europe, we generally fish for sea bass with lighter tackle, and having to take a rod along just to be able to use a lure seems complicated to me.

For freshwater pike fishing, the Dowzone 220 is worth a try, although at first sight I'd prefer to use a surface glide bait, which has a more appropriate swimming action and variable speed.

In fact, the species for which the Dowzone 220 has been specially developed is not bass or pike, but the Australian murray cod. In the same spirit, this lure should be effective on papuan bass. The lure is designed to be animated even when there's not much streamer left, to fish crowded spots.

My opinion

The Dowzone 220 is an original lure, but unfortunately, in France, I don't really find much interest in it, as it's too species-specific.
It shouldn't be completely dismissed, but at almost ?90, you'd better think twice before investing in this lure, which should be reserved for a very specific use. It's not the kind of lure you can fish with from opening to closing, and its versatility seems limited to me.
I don't recommend it for beginners, but it can be an additional resource for experienced anglers who take the time to tame it.
For my part, I had high hopes for this one to adapt it to striped bass fishing, but I have to admit that once tested, it doesn't lend itself to seaside use and I'll probably abandon the idea.
