Passion courses are springing up all over France. They are designed for all categories of angler, from beginner to advanced. Let's take a look at what they are and what they mean for anglers.

Labels to develop fishing

With the "discovery" and "family" course labels, Passion courses enable anglers of all levels to practice their hobby at sites referenced and mapped by the AAPPMAs of a given département.

The idea is to highlight fishing routes on various associations that wish to identify fishing spots and enable anglers to benefit from easier access and facilities, as well as maintenance, for different species of fish.

This may involve night carp fishing, trout fishing or carnivore fishing.

Each site is referenced on the générationpêche.fr website, where you'll find a detailed description of the course and a wealth of information.

Access and facilities for anglers

On these routes, accesses are identified and marked with signs that enable anglers to easily find the sector concerned. A map shows other access points, as well as fish classification and the different species present.

To facilitate access, parking lots have been set up close to some of the most attractive fishing areas.

Stairs, pontoons and slipways, for example, are built to improve access and fishing.

Passion courses benefit from more regular maintenance to make fishing easier, as in rivers for example, where large trees and branches are removed while preserving what the environment and the river require to remain alive and offer a favorable habitat.

Discover the Trefflez course on the Odet river in Brittany

So last week, I went to one of these courses to rediscover it, as I hadn't been there in many years and it's less than 20 minutes from my home.

It was on the Trefflez course on the upper Odet near Trégourez and Coray in Finistère that this latest site was created last year. It's a magnificent, diverse area where the river winds its way through meadows and groves, forming numerous bends and meanders. Rapid currents and deep holes alternate, offering a remarkable habitat for fario trout and wild salmon.

An area that smells of beautiful fish and really makes you want to practice our hobby. Thanks to regular maintenance, fly fishermen will be able to indulge their passion and come and tease the trout with ease. Beware, however, as this sector suffers from very low water levels after June. Fish here in April, May and June.

I'll definitely be going back, and I'll certainly be taking a few trainees with me during the season.
