On November 19, 2024, at the Salon des Maires et des Collectivités Locales, the Association des Maires de France et des présidents d'intercommunalité and the Fédération Nationale de la Pêche en France et de la protection du milieu aquatique formalized their mutual commitment. Presidents David Lisnard and Claude Roustan signed a partnership agreement to work together.

Local development and protection of aquatic environments

Founded in 1907, the Association des Maires de France et des présidents d'intercommunalité aims to defend local liberties. Today, more than 34,000 mayors and presidents of inter-municipalities are members. Since 2007, the Fédération Nationale de la Pêche en France has been organizing recreational fishing and sharing the passion and philosophy of an activity connected to nature. Through their day-to-day activities, the 4,000 associations and 1.5 million members throughout France defend biodiversity and aquatic environments. They are also a driving force behind local development, thanks to the promotion of recreational fishing.

There are many potential areas of cooperation:

  • Development of fishing leisure activities
  • Territorial coordination
  • Preserving water resources
  • Monitoring and protecting aquatic environments.

A three-year partnership

This first three-year partnership marks the start of a cooperation based on complementary expertise, both nationally and locally, through the possibility of setting up agreements in the départements. The Fédération Nationale de la Pêche en France and the associations involved in recreational fishing will thus be making their know-how available to departmental associations of mayors and local councillors who so wish, in terms of protecting aquatic environments, developing watercourses, raising awareness and introducing people to recreational fishing.
