After working for major brands such as Daiwa and Lucky Craft, Japanese designer Nishine has launched his own lure brand, entitled: Nishine Lure Works. Let's take a look at one of his creations: the Erie 115 SD!

Erie 115 SD

The Erie 115 SD is a jerkbait minnow with a classic look. It comes standard with three good-quality treble hooks. In order to comply with French freshwater fishing regulations and to keep the best balance, the hook must be removed from the middle.

The lure is sold with a small sinker which is attached with a broken ring, allowing it to be changed from slow floating to slow sinking. This small sinker can, of course, be used to adjust the swimming depth of other lures.

A lead changes the action of the Erie 115 SD.

This lead can also be cut to make the lure suspending.

However, the best way to take the concept to its logical conclusion would have been to use another lead to make the lure suspending, because once it's cut, there's no turning back.

In terms of available colors, we mainly feature natural colors, used for black-bass fishing. There are also more visible colors, such as chartreuse perch and black back gold, which are very interesting for fishing heavy waters.

The paint and venis used are matte, which is a change from what we're used to seeing. This lends a certain realism to the lure underwater, and reduces the reflection of the sun's rays.

Use

The Erie 115 SD is an all-rounder, equally at home in the stagnant waters of a lake or in the currents of a shallow river. This means it can be used all year round for pike, perch, asp, bass and, above all, black bass! Black bass are very receptive to this lure, especially in cold water.

Abroad, it's perfect for fishing for smallmouth bass, probably what it was created for, given that its creator, Nishine, lives in Canada.

As for its swimming action at constant speed, I'd say it's what you'd expect from a jerkbait minnow. However, when you jerk the lure, it moves in a very erratic way, with the nose pointing downwards. It's in this context and with this animation that it really comes into its own, especially in its slow floating or suspending version!

My opinion

With the multiplicity of jerkbait minnow references, it's becoming increasingly difficult to innovate, and the Erie 115 MD stands out from the crowd, thanks in particular to its lead modification system.

And with a price tag of ?21.95, it's good value for money, especially as it's a two-in-one lure: both floating and sinking!
