John Gierach, fisherman and writer
John Gierach is an American writer born in Illinois in 1946. He grew up in the Midwest and graduated with a degree in philosophy. It was in the Western United States that he took up fly-fishing and became fascinated by this art of living. Journalist, poet and photographer, John Gierach is a writer of "Nature writing". A literary genre born in the United States and promoted by Gallmeister Editions, it combines autobiographical accounts and observations of nature, with famous American fishing enthusiasts such as Jim Harrison and Thomas Mc Guane as its authors.
Editor-in-chief of Fly, Rod and Reel, John Gierach also writes a monthly column for the renowned New York Times. In 1994, he received the Roderick Haig-Brown Award from the NGO Federation of Fly Fishers. An award given to an author of a fly-fishing story who advocates a respect for fly-fishing ethics and traditions, as well as an understanding of rivers, their inhabitants and the environment. He is the author of numerous books with evocative titles: "Traité du zen et de l'art de la pêche à la mouche", "Même les truites ont du vague à l'âme" and "Danse avec les truites". All his works are published in France by Gallmeister.
