The Fisherman and the Salamander - Volume 2: City of the Gods

Le pêcheur et la salamandre - Tome 2: La Cité des dieux is the conclusion of a maritime fantasy diptych for young people, scripted by Geoffroy Monde and illustrated by Zoé B. Simpson, due from Dargaud in late January 2026.

Plot summary

We find Loun, orphan wanderer, and Nahal, lonely salamander, embarked on the ship La Licorne des Mers to continue the quest begun in Volume 1.âeuros

Their mission is to capture the Royal Swordfish and offer it to the mysterious King Fish, the only way to lift the curse hanging over them.âeuros

The hunt for the fish takes them into the depths of the ocean, where they are swallowed by a gigantic octopus, adding an epic, almost mythological dimension to the adventure.âeuros

The dramatic stakes are twofold: escape from the sea monster and finally reach the City of the Gods to defy their fate, thus resolving the arc begun in the first volume.âeuros

Universes and themes

The album combines maritime adventure, fantastic bestiary (King Fish, Royal Swordfish, giant octopus) and invented mythology around the City of Gods.âeuros

The themes highlighted are the quest for identity of a child from the margins (Loun), the friendship between two cursed beings, the confrontation with destiny and the possibility of breaking a curse through courage and solidarity.âeuros

The tone remains accessible to a young audience, but with a rich imagination and stakes strong enough to interest also older readers who love soft fantasy.âeuros

Graphics and tone

Zoé B. Simpson is characterized by the expressive lines and vivid color already seen in the first volume, with its wet marsh and seabed atmospheres.âeuros

The mise en scène plays on the great oceanic spaces, gigantic creatures and mythical city scenery, which promises spectacular plates in this second volume.âeuros

The tone alternates between moments of adventure, touches of humor and darker passages linked to the curse and fate of Loun and Nahal.âeuros

Place in the series

The City of the Gods is announced as volume 2 of 2 in the Fisherman and the Salamander series, making it the conclusion of the story.âeuros

The first volume presented the meeting between Loun and Nahal and the curse that unites them, while this second album should bring the resolution of their quest and shed light on the mythology of King Fish and the City of the Gods.
