The lich, a capricious sport fish
The liche is a formidable fish that is the dream of many sea anglers. With the exception of tuna, which often requires the use of a powerful boat and long-distance fishing trips, the liche is without doubt the most beautiful and powerful sport fish you can hope to catch close to our mainland coasts, and sometimes even from the shore.
This fish, found in the Mediterranean Sea, swims very close to the coast, sometimes evolving on beaches in less than a metre of water during the summer months. An exceptional hunter, the lich is a notoriously capricious fish that sometimes seems to play with its prey like a cat rather than trying to engulf it. Whether you're fishing with a livebait or a lure (the two most popular techniques), the lich will thrill those lucky enough to cross its path.

Samir Kerdjou is one of those anglers who have developed a passion for this fish. Every season, he tries to better understand the behaviour and habits of the species, to refine his rigs, to find the lures and animations that regularly trigger attacks. Samir is always on the lookout for ways to make progress with this fish, which holds a special place among the many species he is used to tracking.
Liche fishing equipment
When it comes to rods, Samir mostly uses long ones (ideally between 3 m and 3 m 60) which allow him to hold as much of the line as possible high above the water, as he says liches are often wary of braid or fluorocarbon lying in the water in front of the livebait or lure. His rigs are also meticulously crafted, with light, strong, sharp hooks that often make all the difference to coarser rigs that liches may abandon.

As far as lures are concerned, he mainly uses surface lures designed to be animated at high speed (one of the factors that often triggers attacks) such as the Xorus flapsturie, the Tackle House feed popper or the Duo Rough Trail Hydra in sizes ranging from 10 to 20 cm. The choice of reel for lure fishing is also very important, as it needs to be able to retrieve at high speed in order to accelerate the animation when a lich follows the lure.

If you're interested in fishing for this fish, we can only recommend this new video from Ultimate Fishing. Samir takes us on board for a day's fishing with livebaits and lures, during which he gives us lots of valuable tips that could save you precious time if you want to catch your first liche. The icing on the cake is that the fish responded well during the filming of this video, and Samir was able to catch some on both livebait and lures... And what about the average size of the fish caught? We let you discover all this in this crazy video.
