Bungee cords, a useful accessory for bait fishing

Elastic line is a very useful accessory for sea fishing. It comes in different diameters to allow you to perfectly eschew your baits and refine your rigs for best results.

What is elastic fishing line?

Elastic wire or bait ligature, as the name suggests, is a wire that can be stretched and is used mainly on baits. It is generally sold in spools of several dozen meters, in different diameters to suit the size of the bait. The larger the diameter, the greater the strength of the elastic thread, which can therefore withstand greater tightening forces. It comes in a single color, white, so can be invisible when used with baits in the same shade.

Considerable time savings

If you've ever been surfcasting or longline fishing, you've probably encountered the most common problem: bait slipping off the line and crashing onto the hook. Elastic line helps to reduce or even eliminate the frequency of this problem.

The bait is simply wrapped with elastic thread at a particular point or along its entire length to form a sort of roast. The bait then stays in place much longer on the hook and resists the attacks of small parasitic fish that might try to tear it off. This means we can change baits less frequently and select larger fish more easily.

For small baits

At its thinnest, elastic thread is particularly useful for worm fishing, whether vertical or surfcasting. Once your worm has been baited onto the line and hook, use the elastic thread to lock the first two centimetres of the worm onto the line. This technique allows you to keep a worm in its normal shape, without having to sausage it, while taking advantage of the fact that it won't be able to slip and crush itself on the hook. It also helps to hold the worm in place when casting long distances.

For large baits

If you want to use bibis, squid strips, whole shrimps or sardines, thick elastic thread is a must. In this case, you can wrap the entire bait around it to protect it from sharp-toothed fish and, above all, to keep it for a very long time, without having to change it at every bite.

For big fish, it can be used to make sandwiches, in which several strips of squid can be tied together, for example. You can also use a shrimp or a sardine, on which you place several strips of squid to make them both more visually attractive and to protect them from attack by voracious small fish.
