Tatula, Daiwa's range of casting reels, recognizable by the spider logo, features a dozen references for all applications! Let's take a look at the 150 HSL, one of the most versatile in the range.

Tatula

Tatula reels are among Daiwa's mid-range reels, with the Tatula Elites at the very top end. They still benefit from many of the technologies developed by the brand. So, for a very reasonable price, you get a reel with technologies often reserved for more high-end reels. All brands considered, the Tatula series of casting reels offers one of the best value for money.

150 HSL

Among these technologies, the Tatula 150 HSL incorporates the famous TWS, Daiwa's own line guide, which reduces stress on the line by giving it freedom.

It also features Mag Force Z and Free Floating Spool, systems that enhance casting performance.

The magnetic brake is precise and powerful.

Its unique Swept Handle design features two plastic handles.

Its mechanical brake has no ratchet. This isn't really a problem, but it does reduce precision and ease of adjustment.

Aesthetics

I really like the black paint with the matte finish. Having several reels like this, I find the feel in the hand more pleasant and they are less prone to scratches or paint chips, than glossy/varnished reels.

To add a little more life to this black, the reel is embellished with several white spiders, the symbol of the Tatula range.

Its shape is well studied and allows a good grip. One detail I like about Daiwa reels is that the part that houses the control wheel doesn't protrude further than the rod from underneath. This means that you can't touch it with your hand when holding the reel, which is a problem with other brands.

Its strong point is its matte paint finish.

For your information, mine is mounted on a Bone BVC 684 XH rod, rated at 10-60 grams. The result is a well-balanced package, with a reel that perfectly matches the weights of the lures used.

My opinion

The Tatula is a reel offering excellent value for money. What's more, its comprehensive range of ratios, from size 100 to 200, covers a wide range of casting techniques.

It will appeal to beginners and enthusiasts alike. I'm thinking in particular of black-bass or pike anglers who want to mount a large number of combos, corresponding to each technique. The Tatula range allows you to mount several rods at a reasonable cost, with a quality reel.

Getting back to the Tatula 150 HSL, it's perfectly suited to lures weighing between 8 and 100 grams. Its strong point is that it's very pleasant to hold and use. It's easy to adjust, and it's exactly the kind of reel I'd recommend if you want to start casting in the right conditions.
