I have tested... / The Babyface BB180-MSS, a glide bait designed to be jerked!

Babyface is a fairly recent brand. Nevertheless, it offers a dozen hard lures, including a glide bait that looks promising! Let's take a look at the BB180-MSS underwater.

Babyface BB180-MSS

The BB180-MSS is an 18-centimetre slow sinking glide bait. It is made up of two equal parts, joined together by a metal frame.

The original hooks are solid and allow you to fish for pike without any worries. Out of conviction, I replaced them with a single 4/0 in the head and a 3/0 in the tail, which does not alter either its swimming action or its weight.

Les couleurs sont belles et flashy.
The colors are beautiful and flashy.

It comes in 13 colors, including what I'd call the perfect trio! This trio is made up of a white, a fire tiger and a chartreuse, the three essential colors for pike fishing! Alongside these colors, there are natural and flashier variants, which have the merit of offering something unconventional.

Les couleurs sont pertinentes.
The colors of the BB180-MSS are relevant.

Its tail is made of a rigid plastic that resists pike teeth and won't melt on contact with other plastics. An appreciated detail: the lure comes with a spare tail.

Finally, a special mention for the eyes. Where many lures have a sticker eye that falls off the first time you use it, Babyface's lure has a more sophisticated eye that can't seem to go away.

Swimming

In appearance, the BB180-MSS looks like an ordinary glide bait, but in action, it's not like the others! It's a lure with a very low degree of freedom between its two sections.

L'amplitude de mouvement est faible entre les 2 sections du leurre.
The amplitude of movement is small between the 2 sections of the lure.

This characteristic makes it swim in a very close S-shape, and it doesn't deviate much from its recovery axis. In fact, I'd describe it more as a Z stroke. What I mean by Z is that he doesn't make a nice curve, but rather an instantaneous change of direction. His stroke is therefore jerky, not fluid.

This lack of amplitude between the two sections makes it behave like a pike jerk. When you stop and go or jerk it, it immediately goes sideways at 90 degrees or more, as it can almost go backwards.

My opinion

Even though the BB180-MSS's swimming amplitude is small, the sudden change of direction it makes brings something new with a less predictable side than a traditional glide bait. This swimming action, combined with a few jerks from time to time, should help trigger bites from following fish.
