Dekai
Sakura's Dekai is a ready-to-use soft lure, as it's already rigged and weighted. It is armed with a treble hook, mounted on a rolling swivel, which gives it 360° freedom of movement, ideal for preventing fish from unhooking. To hold the treble hook in position, slide one of its prongs into the ventral slot provided.
The hook's hold is not optimal, as it sometimes pops out on its own. An internal magnet to ensure a better hold would have been great.
Its gum is unique and resembles few other lures. It's soft and dense at the same time, and seems to stand up well to pike teeth.
It's intermediate in size, at 15 centimetres, but still stout for its size, which creates a strong displacement of water.
Its paddle is very wide and also stirs up a lot of water. These two points add up to a lure that pike or catfish can easily identify with their sensory organs.
8 colors
For its launch, the lure comes in 8 different colors. My favorite is color 118, which is a chartreuse too rare on the market, yet perfect for many situations! Other colors include a white, three zebra colors, a blue, a black/wind glitter back and a more natural color.
Ecological
When designing the Dekai, Sakura emphasized the impact the lure can have on its environment, to make it less damaging to it.
The plastic used is bpa-free, which means it's non-toxic.
What's more, the internal sinker contains 0% lead and is made of zinc. The density of zinc is lower than that of lead, allowing for better weight distribution and a lure that stays straight and sinks smoothly.
Use
The Dekai is designed to be gently reeled in at a constant speed. It doesn't like currents too much, and is best suited to fishing calm, shallow areas and just above weedbeds thanks to its very slow sink rate.
My opinion
The Dekai is very simple to use, easy to throw and all-purpose. It will appeal to beginners and advanced anglers alike. Oriented towards pike fishing, it is well suited to black-bass and catfish, when they frequent shallow areas sheltered from the current.
