Daytime carp fishing: double approach for more bites

© Grégory MARTIN

Carp fishing is not limited to night fishing. With the right method, it's possible to make great daytime catches, especially when you double your approach. Let's take a look at the strategies you can use.

There are many different approaches to day carp fishing, depending on the location, the stock, the weather conditions... For my part, I often like to practice a double approach so as not to put all my eggs in one basket. Here's one of my latest sessions, in a daytime pond, which was rather prolific.

Double approach, without upstream priming

In mid-spring, during a daytime fishing trip lasting just a few hours, I set up a double approach in order to hit as many carp as possible. Indeed, I think it's utopian to believe that all fish are interested in the same type of bait or the same type of bait. For this fishery, no pre-baiting was carried out.

Main primer

The main groundbait consisted of Ready Seeds Spod Mix (corn, wheat, hemp seeds) and Chopped Tigers from the same range. I wanted to offer lots of small particles to fix the fish for as long as possible. As I was fishing at medium range, around 70 m, I chose to agglomerate these seeds with Method and Stick Mix Signal and Hemp flour.

The balls were propelled using a slingshot. Initially, the equivalent of 1.5 kilos of seeds were propelled. The remainder of my preparation was kept for after-bite recall. It should be noted that, in addition to the spilled particles, the flour also allowed for greater marking of the area.

Tip

To make balls easily, you need 1 part Method and Stick Mix to 2 parts seeds. Afterwards, you need to wet the mixture thoroughly, without the balls sticking too much to your hands.

Peripheral priming

To attract as many carp as possible, I decided to use a peripheral bait to the left and right of the main bait.

This peripheral baiting was a rhythmic baiting with a 14 mm Signal pellet. 1 handful of balls scattered every 30 minutes left and right using my M5 Carbon Throwing Stick.

Strategy of the day

2 rods were placed on the main bait and 2 rods on the peripheral bait: one on the left and the other on the right.

My main zone rigs were baited with a 14 mm Signal and a crushed tiger, accompanied by a lead stuffed with a preparation paste similar to the main bait. The peripheral rods, on the other hand, were baited with a 14 mm Signal only. To increase the stimulation of the baits, each leader was accompanied by a soluble net filled with Signal pellets moistened with the range's Dip.

Course

In just a few hours of fishing, I'd land 8 carp with a nice average. My peripheral baiting ended up supplanting my basic baiting. Without this double baiting, I would undoubtedly have missed several bites. Once the fish were active in the baited areas, the runs followed each other at very short intervals.

With good observation, a good choice of position and a simple but not simplistic approach, it is quite possible to achieve great daytime sessions, sometimes in just a few hours of fishing.

A successful day.
