The conditions encountered
The opening period for pike is approaching, our boxes are starting to be filled with lures that will be effective, at least in theory. The main uncontrollable factor during the opening is the water temperature, inevitably linked to the weather.
High temperatures can drive fish to the edges, while a cold snap can drive them to the depths. Some lures, such as soft lures, are more suitable for prospecting. We just have to change the weight of the lead head on the same lure. However, this may quickly damage the plastic of the soft lure, so it is necessary to have a multitude of lure/head combo in its boxes.
This represents a significant investment, especially if we lose our lures while hooking.
A lure with a removable weight
To solve the common problems encountered when searching for the depth where the fish are located, Fiiish has developed a soft lure with removable weights, the Blaster Shad. It is a soft lure body, mounted on a hollow resin head in which you can choose to insert 4 weights, called Player Blocks. These Player Blocks are made of plastic (0 grams), zinc (3 grams) or Tungsten (7.5 grams). The head must imperatively include 4 Player Blocks to avoid the insertion of air in the head.
This lure is ideal for fishing in many different depths, ranging from 0 to 8 meters depending on the number of weights. You can also fish in a given depth and adjust the weight of the lure to get a faster action. For example, if I want to fish in 2 meters of water, adding a 3 gram weight allows me to reach that depth while fishing very slowly. But the fish may be more interested in fast action, in this case I add 2 more weights, that is 6 grams more, to fish in 2 meters of water by bringing my lure quickly and triggering hits. There are also tungsten weights to fish even faster or deeper.
Integrated technologies
The Blaster Shad is available in 3 different sizes, 130, 160 and 200 mm to suit the prey that pike are eating at the moment. The paddle tail of the Blaster Shad is inverted, which allows it to start working very quickly on contact with the water and especially on the descent phase. The head containing the weights is interchangeable on the different sizes and colors to increase your color combo options.
As far as the rigging is concerned, a triple is placed in a central position, on the belly. The latter is maintained in contact with the body of the lure by a "quickclip", which releases the hook when striking and allows to extend the life of the flexible lure. The hook is attached to a steel rod with a rolling swivel to give 360 degrees of freedom to the hook and avoid unhooking fish.
