Feedback from experience / Fluoro Carbon Super Hard Powerline, high performance for leaders

The range of Powerline fluoro is very large! © Likid Fishing

Fluorocarbon has been used for many years to make strong and discreet leaders. Powerline offers hard fluorocarbon in many diameters to meet the demands of anglers.

A wide range

Powerline offers its hard fluorocarbon in a very wide range of 28 different diameters, starting with 6/100 and ending with 233/100. These diameters are offered in 20, 50 and 100 meter packages.
Le fluorocarbone est stocké en bobine ou en écheveau.
Fluoro Carbon is stored in coils or skeins.
This packaging comes in the form of a plastic spool for diameters up to 80/100 and in skeins for larger diameters. With such a choice, every fisherman will find exactly what he wants!

A good fluorocarbon

Powerline's Fluoro Carbon Super Hard has very good knot strength and abrasion resistance. The term hard refers to its hardness, as there is another version, super soft, which is softer. This hardness gives a little stiffness to the line and reduces tangles.
Its underwater discretion is excellent. It is suitable for many uses, such as most lure fishing, fly fishing with streamers or for making leaders for feeder and carp fishing.
Le fluoro Powerline est de bonne qualité.
Powerline's fluorocarbon is of good quality.
When it receives cuts, only the impacted part frays for a short distance, and this cut does not grow. Its linear strength is very good, I have never had a bad surprise with a break that occurred anywhere but at a knot.
This fluorocarbon has a bit of memory when left wound for long periods of time, but it disappears fairly quickly once it is soaked and used. It is a very good product on the points you would expect from a fluorocarbon, however, there is a but...

A coil that leaves something to be desired

In spite of all its qualities, this fluorocarbon has a defect, which is its packaging and the quality of the reels on which it is contained. They break like nothing and it's a pity, because they don't allow to preserve properly the integrity of the fluorocarbon. It's disappointing to have such a good product and that its storage is not up to its standard, so much so, that I sometimes had to rewind my fluorocarbon on other reels of other brands... So, every detail counts.
La bobine est fragile.
The coil is fragile.
Moreover, the integrated clip on the reel to hang it on the shelves of the stores has no interest for the fishermen, except that it is an additional point of breakage. Another system or additional packaging, even if it is not environmentally friendly, would have been a plus!
Given the limited length of time we use per year, we are likely to keep a reel for several years before emptying it, so it should last as long as the product stored, and even longer.
Certaines marques proposent des bobines solides.
Some brands offer solid coils.
If I make the comparison with other brands, their spools are solid and I have no worries with them, while I carry them in exactly the same way. Despite a great product, its development seems to have lacked thought about its use made at the water's edge, even if we can note the presence of a thread cutter integrated into the spool, which can not cut large diameters ...
Un coupe fil est intégré.
A wire cutter is not necessary on large diameters.
Finally, the wire size is printed in small print on the product label, and fades over time, making it unreadable, which again is not a good point in the long run. Once this inscription is erased, there is no other way to identify the diameter contained in the spool.
Difficile de savoir de quel diamètre il s'agit !
It is difficult to know what diameter it is!

My opinion

I can only recommend Powerline's hard fluorocarbon for all its qualities listed above, it is a quality product, offered at a consistent price. I have been using it for many years for all my lure and fly fishing, such as for asp, zander, bass, catfish or salmon, and I am fully satisfied.
However, I have to warn you about the fragility of the reels on which these fluorocarbons are wound, and this is a pity. For my part, I remain mixed on this point and after too many disappointments, I tend to look at what the competition offers.
The advice I can give is to store it in a rigid box to avoid any problems, and not to put it loosely in a pocket, a backpack or a float-tube bag. There is no problem with storing in skeins for large diameters, which moreover, contains sleeves!
