Finding the right weather window
A Monday in the sun between two depressions, a moment of calm on the water that is good for the neurons. In this chaotic weather of early spring, it is difficult to find comfortable slots for outings. On this Monday at the end of March, the opportunity was too good, and moreover the fish were there.
Until the last moment, I watched the different weather sites I usually use to prepare my trips. All the previous week, the wind was present, the rain too, associated with the high tidal coefficients, impossible to go on the water. But this period is really present.
The importance of the pollster
As soon as the sun rises, the kayak is on the beach. This one is strewn with pieces of seaweed, seaweeds and debris of all kinds, which testify of the tobacco blows of the week. Come on, let's go, towards the small open sea, as soon as we leave the aber, the Garmin screen gives good information, we are at the end of the rising season and the fish is active.
As soon as the Talashad is on the bottom, I have just the time to take contact with the line that I feel it go, I hook it and it is hung, they are leeches. They are not huge, fish in the 50 to 60 cm, I will do a lot during one hour and as they are in less than 20 meters of bottom, those that I release leave without concern. But I didn't come for the teenagers, I'm going to look for the big brothers further out.
In search of the big places
After another half an hour of sailing, I find bottoms of 35 to 40 meters. I am still with my Talashad, in different colors and weights. As there is no current at all, I fish mainly with the 20 and 30 grams heads. Trying to be as vertical as possible, because the bottoms are not so easy to catch. The animation is minimalist, once touched the bottom, I bring up the lure very slowly with pauses of one or two seconds. The water is still cold and it is this slow animation which corresponds to the conditions of the moment.
There again, I have an attack at the beginning of the ascent, this time it is a splendid male coquette which will have been fooled, photo and release in the stride. Some following drifts, the screen announces me again a beautiful detection, not the same drawing as the previous times.
I choose a transparent green Talashad body, with a 25 grams profyler head. From the beginning of the animation, it is gobbled, head shots, they are bass who return from the spawn, fish of 45 to 50 cm, in great number. There too, they will have no trouble to leave. As a reminder, above the 48th, the taking of fish is only authorized from the first of April. It is a pleasure to see them coming back, but I did not come for them...
I move a few hundred meters and again a nice detection, there are 20 to 25 meters of bottom. A head of 20 grams is enough to go down, contact with the bottom, closing of the pick-up and big departure with instantaneous strike, my rod 7-28 grams is bent to touch the water, it is finally the big leaches sought. What a pleasure to catch such fish on light equipment, the sensations are multiplied tenfold and the outcome of the fight more than uncertain.
I will thus prick three nice fish in the 75 cm. They are full of big sardines, as I will see at the time of the cleaning. I did my fishing, I can go back, it is 11:30 am and I have a good hour of navigation to get to the coveted beach for the snack. The weather is great and I might as well enjoy it. What a pleasure to exploit such slots successfully, they are too rare at the moment, I like Mondays in the sun...
