On our side, we have once again thrown our devotion on the fishing in dam lake which allows to fish in team and to share together our fishing party, picnic and other anecdotes... However, everything did not go so smoothly, Corsica having been hit by the Larisa storm during the opening weekend.
In the middle of a storm
The wind did not weaken, it even strengthened this Saturday of opening. The storm reaching peak gusts of 120km/h on our spot!
So we had to concentrate our efforts on the most sheltered areas! At this game, I start strong with a first trout of 43 cm in the undulating. A big part of success for the capture of this beautiful fario which allows me to "unwind".
Shortly after, Danny Frigot of the Illex team, coming directly from Normandy, caught a fario of the same size at the Illex Deracoup.
Overall, we managed to find a few fish mainly with metal lures. The ripples, casting jig and tail spinner will have allowed the captures of the day.
It was indeed necessary to fish heavy and dense to overcome the wind, manage its banner and animate correctly its lure.
Most of the catches were made with the Illex native Spoon 7 and 9 grams Pink Yamame, Illex Tricoroll Spoon and Illex Deracoup.
Only little Marc, 8 years old, gave us a superb river action by luring a 43 cm fario with a soft lure. He knew how to control perfectly his casting, his drift and the brutal fight in the tumults.
Satisfactory water levels
The dam lake is very low in order to anticipate the snow melt. In Corsica, precipitation has been abundant this winter, which suggests a beautiful 2023 season. We are crossing our fingers to have some nice rains in spring and some storms in summer, so that the conditions remain optimal for the survival of salmonids.
The next day, the lake level rose by at least 1 meter! The wind died down, but the fishing did not get any easier. The active fishes in edges were already almost all solicited.
You have to fish far away and in this game, the undulating and casting jigs are still the most efficient, leading the Illex Tricoroll Spoon 14 grams, and the new Illex Silver Shade in 12 and 17 grams.
We will all catch at least one fish during this weekend. On Sunday, it is Milo who will be "almost" author of a superb fish with Silver Shade 17 grams Pink Yamame, but the fish of more than 45 cm will be unhooked with the landing net... It's only a postponement for Milo.
We will remember the good moments and the nice catches in the difficulty with a nice average size of catch and fish in full health!
