The cannibalistic behavior of the pike is no secret, but lures that exploit this characteristic of the species are rather rare. Biwaa, with the Swimpike, offers a lure that looks like a pike!

Biwaa Swimpike 24 centimeters

The 24 centimeter Swimpike from Biwaa exists in 3 versions, with different weights between 62 and 85 grams, corresponding to slow sinking, sinking and fast sinking. The density of the lure only affects its diving speed and the swimming action between the 3 versions remains identical.
Le coloris Northern du Biwaa Swimpike est vraiment beau !
The Northern color of the Biwaa Swimpike is really beautiful!
The first thing that surprised me when I took the lure out of its box, is that it is very thin. I find it lacking in stoutness even if its design, and the swim desired by Biwaa for this lure, does not really give the designer the possibility to play on the width of the lure.
I think that this lack of body shape should not allow a predator to distinguish the lure properly, especially if it is positioned below or behind. On the other hand, the strong point of this lure is its appearance and its successful design, which will provoke territorial attacks from the pike, believing they are dealing with one of their own.
Le Swimpike manque de corpulence.
The Swimpike lacks stoutness.
The soft plastic fins give it realism underwater. They seem fragile, fortunately, the lure comes with a set of spare fins.
The flexibility of these fins gives the advantage that they have no memory and do not take bad shapes when the lure is stored in a box.
Les nageoires du Swimpike sont durables et ne se déforment pas.
The fins of the Swimpike are durable and will not deform.

Use

The design of the lure forces it to be retrieved at a certain speed so that its swimming action can be carried out. Because of this speed, we move away from the spirit of big bait fishing, for which low speed and long pauses are one of the keys. Moreover, the lure does not really swim, it follows a straight trajectory and its swimming consists rather in an undulation of its body, the head, it, remains quite straight.
The second possible animation is to work it in jerks, a bit like the dead fish technique.

The resistance of the lure in the water is very low, its use is easy with a casting or spinning set. I use it with a casting rod of 10-80 grams. Using it with heavier equipment is not pleasant, because you don't feel the lure swimming. However, I noticed that this particular swimming frequency is interesting in turbid waters or in low light.

My opinion

Aesthetically, the lure is very beautiful and its resemblance to a pike is successful. However, even if its length of 24 centimeters can make think that it is a big bait, I do not consider it as such, because of its small size and its reduced weight.
It is a good transitional lure, easy to use, which can allow you to discover fishing with big lures or to be able to use large lures on standard equipment without having to own a set dedicated to big baits.
Its use can be a little confusing, because you don't feel it working in the rod, but it has the merit of offering a different frequency than the majority of other lures on the market, which can make the difference on certain days. It is a lure that I like to fish in clear and shallow water, when it is necessary above all to bet on the appearance.
