The float-tube is a valuable tool for fishing in environments previously inaccessible with other types of boats. If well prepared, it is easy to transport it over long distances without too much effort.

1) Choosing your float-tube

When choosing a float-tube, it is important to define the use you want to make of it. If it is intended to be used in difficult to access areas and if you need to walk, then you should choose a model corresponding to this use. In this case, it is necessary to take a float-tube of small size, of dimensions 150 to 160, and to check the presence of rings of fixings and straps of transport.

The transport straps are essential to carry your float-tube.

2) Take the essentials with you

When you have to walk with your fishing equipment, you must be able to take only what is necessary to minimize the weight carried. It is therefore necessary to take the fishing gear and what to repair if necessary.

For example, there is no point in carrying 50 leaded heads when a dozen are more than enough. The same goes for lures, if you know that such and such a lure will remain in the box throughout the fishing session, there is no point in carrying it.

From this point of view, carrying one or two fishing rods is the best thing to do, in order not to have a rod holder installed on the float-tube, which complicates the transport. Thus, it is easy to lighten a float-tube by a few kilograms.

3) Favour space-saving equipment

In the same way as taking just the essentials, it is advisable to favour equipment that is easily transportable and not too bulky.

Travelling type fishing rods, with a multi-section construction, are very easy to carry, especially when going through wooded areas. There are also collapsible landing nets, which also facilitate transportation.

4) Freeing the arms

It is easier to load the float-tube that you carry on your back, rather than loading your arms, which after a few minutes will quickly become numb.

Thus, accessories such as fins can be attached directly to the float-tube, and the life jacket worn on oneself. In addition, it is important to load the pockets of the float-tube, so that you do not have to carry a bakkan or a waterproof bag by hand.

5) Go with two cars

Finally, for this type of exploration, it is not possible to carry an electric motor. However, when you are not fishing alone, when the environment is suitable and when there are access points, it is interesting to leave one car at the arrival point, and to use the second one to go to the departure point.

Therefore, it is possible to make long trips, in large lakes or rivers, without worrying about having to go back the other way.
