A pleasant freshness
At the moment, in these hot weather conditions, there is one place where you feel good, it is in the open sea. Mind you, I'm not talking about being on the water at the height of the day, but in the early morning, it's very pleasant. This week, the forecasts are predicting temperatures of 25 to 40°C all over France, so I thought: let's go and see what's happening offshore.
These days often start with beautiful colors, a golden sky and a blue sea, provided you get up early. It was the case today, once the equipment was prepared, I took a good hour to reach my spots. The sea is a real lake and it is pleasant to sail in such conditions.
The right lure
Arrived on zone, I begin my prospecting, after another hour to seek them without finding them, I see two heads of rock which exceed, spaced of a hundred meters. There are still two hours of descent and a nice current is formed between these rock heads. I make a first pass without putting a lure in the water while watching my screen. There is a gentle slope going down between 15 and 40 meters and some significant echoes make my sounder beep.
I place myself in the right direction of drift, a Talashad mounted on a 30g astubreizh head is thrown in the water at the beginning of the 15m zone. The lure does not have time to touch the bottom, a fish has seized it on the way down. The lure is not long in coming down to the bottom, a fish has grabbed it on the way down. The lure is hooked in a row and the start is powerful, it's a big place for sure.
I went up rather light, Topknot Leader 28/00 at the bottom of the line, as usual, and these fish are strong. But it ends up going up towards the kayak, meter after meter, until it ends up in the landing net. It is indeed a nice place over 80, increasingly rare so close to the coast. He gulped the Talashad down to the bottom of the gorge and spit out sandeel full of the kayak.
The Talashad has the right length and looks like two drops of water to the meal of the day. I'll go back on this drift about ten times, each time it's hanging, with fish a little smaller. I will also record a breakage on a fish a priori bigger as well as an open staple, they are given for 10 kgâeuros¦. After two unsuccessful passages, it's over, the fair is over, I did my fishing and will return.
Summer meetings
It's getting hot and it's going to be slack tide, something rarely happens at this time. I took advantage of the good weather to go back by the schoolchildren's path and to say hello to the colony of seals which took its summer quarters in the area, just to wait for the time of the snack that I will take on a nice deserted sandy spot. The seals like the sea bass often like to hunt in the end of the currents, food coming easily to them, finding such a hunting area is a godsend.
