A wide range of prey possible in the middle of summer
In spring, but especially in summer, terrestrial insects are swept away by the wind and often fall into the water, whether in lakes or rivers. A godsend for our favorite gobbling fish.
Beetles, grasshoppers, crickets, but also wasps, bees, ants, are therefore very sought after prey by trout, but also white fish.
Who hasn't seen these insects struggling to the surface and being greedily swallowed up?

Post and edge fishing
The first places to look for are the edges and especially under the trees.
Many insects live there and arrive on the water by mistake. The trout know this well and for these reasons they settle on this kind of post.
Lowland rivers bordered by grasslands are also prime areas for the use of grasshoppers and other crickets.
It is not a gobbling fishing, even if it is not rare to see it in this season, but rather a fast fishing where we prospect the edges in priority (sometimes in very little water) by carrying out short drifts. If you have a stump, high grass, a marked post, no doubt that a gobbler fish (trout, chub) will have found a perfect habitat to feast on its prey very rich in calories and easy.

Vary your imitations!
I personally use a lot of imitation beetles that are present everywhere in the woods, on trees and are easy to imitate. A foam mounting with a peacock herl body and a pair of plastic legs and that's it.
Grasshopper flies will also be a top choice when fishing flatland rivers, bordered by pasture, fields or meadows.
Winged ants are also a common sight, especially in stormy weather, and it is not advisable to go out in the summer without several imitations of different sizes (18 to 14).

When you don't have success with a model, don't hesitate to change.
If the trout are not very active, you must provoke them by slapping the flies on the water. They will quickly be attracted to the vibrations. If nothing happens after your fly hits the water, try a few light rod shakes to get your fly moving and vibrating. This can sometimes set them off.
Enjoy this summer period and have a great vacation!
