Ãeuros 8: 00 last Saturday was the opening of the river fishing. All the trout fishermen could once again return to the water's edge to try to catch their first fish. Like every year, I participated and as always with a fly !
The season is launched ! What a pleasure to go back to the water's edge and find my beautiful little wild Breton trout!
As usual, I fished alone because I like to be in communion with nature, to find my marks (new sectors this year following my move) and to prospect other corners.
First day
For the fly, there is no point in arriving early and I prefer the hottest hours. So 11:00 in waders, ready to go.
Lots of people on Saturday and complicated conditions in Brittany with dirty water on most rivers, wind gusting to over 70 km/h and some good showers.
I fell back on the headwaters to find clearer water.
On Saturday, too many worm fishermen on the course where I had decided to withdraw because of the dirty water on the sectors where I wanted to start my season. The spots are already done and redone. I start with the streamer (freshly mounted) and two trout will come to see and tap in my streamer, but none will be bitten.
Water too cold for the drowned, no hatching. So, in the afternoon, I put myself to the NAF or Nymphe Au Fil, and beautiful small trouts with beautiful dresses will take my nymphs ORL (ear of hare). No very big fish on this kind of small river, but sometimes we can have a surprise!
I test the Redington STRIKE in 10 feet of 3 line. I am very happy with the sensations. It's a light, fast and pleasant rod to cast in crossbow and nymph whip.
And the next day...
On Sunday, the water is still very dirty on the first course because of the rain of the night. Same strategy, I go back on the headwaters. I arrived at the water's edge at 11:30 and went back to a course I knew very well when I lived in Quimper. Nobody on the sector, and the water is a little bit prickly, but passable.
I take back the STRIKE and the same fly that worked well the day before.
The trout are shy, but come out of their lethargy to feed a little.
I would take 6 trout including two nice ones for the size of the river with one 26 and one 28 in great shape with great colors, that will bend the 10 footer.
A beautiful and clean course (clear) that will be promising for the drowned and dry later in the season. A great pleasure to find this little piece of paradise.
My colleague Lionel will join me in the afternoon, but the trout were already not too much outside. The slots are short in this season.
A beautiful and very pleasant weekend. We will still have to wait to fish the biggest rivers which are still dirty because of the precipitations of the last days.
