A very favourable season
When the waters are cold, bighead gobies gather in very shallow areas, sometimes in less than 10 centimeters of depth. The end of winter is synonymous with reproduction for these fish, it usually begins between February and April.
At this period, females hardly bite at the lure unlike males, very aggressive as they defend their territory against potential competitors. They have a very particular dress, the majority of the body is of a very dark black, but the extremities of the fins have a very pretty blue and white border.

Find the right spots easily
Gobies are very easy to find if you have rocky coasts nearby. They particularly appreciate calm areas, sheltered from the waves, in depths ranging from 10 to 50 cm. They have a great preference for large boulders creating large holes in which the gobies can hide without being disturbed.
They can also be found in harbors, and even in dikes. It may seem surprising, but to find the largest individuals at this time of year, you should fish as shallow as possible. Another tip is to look for an area in front of a hole where the substrate is clean, as if it had been cleaned by the comings and goings of a fish. These small details are often indicators of the presence of a nice individual.

Some tips
The aggressiveness of these fish makes them a very playful species to look for. It is still important to place and animate the lure correctly. To do this, the ideal is to place the lure as close as possible to the entrance of the hole that can potentially contain a nice fish. On a clear day, despite its aggressiveness, the goby is often reluctant to leave its hole in its entirety and expose itself to danger.
It is thus necessary to facilitate the work to him and to animate in a zone not exceeding 10 cm of distance with its mask. The animation of the lure must be erratic, I advise you to use your free hand and to seize the line with your hand to make the lure twitch. To animate with the rod tip is possible, but much less precise, the objective being to animate the lure on the spot and very quickly from top to bottom at about 2 cm above the bottom.
