The cuttlefish is a nocturnal species
Cuttlefish, Sepia officinalis like all cephalopods, this species tends to start hunting as soon as night falls, and this, until daybreak. Of course, in the middle of the day, it will not disdain an easy prey passing within reach of its tentacles. But it is when night falls that the cuttlefish will be ready to make long trips to find food.
The fishing spots to be favored

When darkness is at its peak, the first thing to think about is your own safety. It is too dangerous to venture into crowded areas such as rocky areas. Especially since cuttlefish take advantage of the darkness to get closer to the port areas, beaches, places more frequented during the day. The entrance to ports and the interior of ports (when they are not forbidden to fishing), are ideal spots to look for cuttlefish.
The lighted areas often concentrate all kinds of potential prey, small fish, shrimps and crabs, offerings for the marauding cuttlefish.
Should you fish differently at night?
At night, it is useless to look deep for cuttlefish. They are often found near the edge, on the first few meters.
Cuttlefish can be fished with bait such as a sardine mounted on a needle or placed in a cage with a basket. But the most entertaining practice remains fishing with jigs or calamari. Jigs to be brought back either in line, or by practicing animations of type "bichi-bachi".

The use of glow jigs and flashy colors is recommended when fishing for cuttlefish at night. A landing net and a good quality headlamp will complete the list of equipment.
One last piece of advice, avoid lighting up the water with your lamp, otherwise the most beautiful fish will be on the alert and remain fearful even at night. At night, it is not uncommon to find cuttlefish of the year sheltered near the shore. The no kill on small fish is essential to preserve the resource and the pleasure of this fishing.
