Point of view / What are the most common animations for each family of hard lures?

The hard lures for fishing are very varied and have all their specificities in terms of design, action and by incidence of animations. Even if in absolute terms, there are no limits of use, any animation could be effective one day or another, some remain more specific, or at least appropriate, to a type of lure.

Lure fishing includes a very large number of different families and beginners can be quickly lost in front of their box and in fishing action. What to do with this lure, how to animate it correctly, what are the different swims that can be used? Even if the names can evoke some tracks, here is a summary of the possible animations for each family.

The Cranbaits

Crankbaits, as their name indicates, are lures designed to be "cranked", therefore to be animated with a linear animation on the reel. The possible variations are then the stop and go which consists of taking breaks and the burning which lies in bringing it back extremely fast.

The bottom tapping which consists in tapping the lure against the bottom, or even ploughing it, is a specific animation for crankbaits.

Spinnerbaits

Spinnerbaits can undergo exactly the same animations as the previous lures, but they can also be operated in " Falling "The goal is to let the spinnerbait flow freely along the vertical walls. The objective is to let the spinnerbait flow freely so that it runs along the entire height of the obstacle.

Chatterbaits

Chatterbaits are, in a way, crankbaits, but instead of a bib there is a metal paddle that vibrates strongly under the pressure of the water. The same animations are possible, but it is also effective to make small pulls on the bottom aiming to put in action the paddle on a few centimeters. This animation aims to imitate a crayfish.

Minnow jerkbaits

Minnow jerkbaits are elongated swimming fish with a bib. They can be animated with jerks (and twitchs ) as their name indicates, but also in linear mode with or without pauses and even at very high speeds to make the predators react.

Lipless cranckbaits

The lipless are short and high swimming fish without bib, whose attachment is located on the back. They have a very tight swim that causes strong vibrations. In fact, their French name is "vibration". They can be animated in traction and of course in cranking with all the pauses and speed variations that this implies.

Swimbaits

The swimbaits are lures without bibs and articulated in several parts. This design is intended to create a more or less wide swim depending on the number of segments (2 for glidebaits) during a linear retrieve. These lures offer the most realistic and natural presentation of all existing lures. Of course it is possible to make breaks and very fast retrieves.

The glidebaits can even be jerked a little to make big sideways swerves.

Poppers

Poppers are surface lures with a concave mouth. By animating them with small or large pulls (twitch and jerk in a way), this mouth traps an air bubble that bursts at the surface of the water and causes a "pop". However, a linear retrieve is often very effective as well.

Stickbaits

Stickbaits are those famous surface lures that swim in a zigzag pattern. This swim, called walking the dog the animation is obtained by making a series of small strokes of the scion associated with a recovery of the banner with the reel. It is obviously possible to vary the rhythm and the amplitude of the animations and especially to add pauses.

Buzzbaits

Buzzbaits are sinking lures with a propeller, but they are animated on the surface. A quick retrieve without a break after landing is the right animation to use this lure which often causes impressive attacks.

The propbaits have a similar design, but with a smaller propeller and are floating. This allows them to be moved more slowly and with pauses.
