The barracuda is a fairly easy fish to find, as it is often abundant. They frequent the edges, making them an ideal species for discovering exotic fishing while fishing from the shore.

The barracuda is a carnivorous fish, easily identifiable by its distinctive head and silvery body, built for speed. It's not dangerous for humans swimming nearby, but its razor-sharp teeth mean it needs to be handled with care. To make it easier to handle, you can hold it by the operculum like a pike, taking care not to touch its gills to avoid injuring it. They can reach very nice sizes, around 1.50 m long and weighing 30 to 40 kg.

Where can I find it?

The good thing about this species is that it frequents the edges and can be fished from the shore quite easily. Barracudas frequent areas sheltered from the current, such as marinas, coves or sand flats. There, they remain motionless, waiting for prey to present itself. They're not always easy to spot, so you shouldn't just fish for visible fish, especially as they may come from a long way off in search of a lure.

A sport fish

The fighting is what makes barracuda fishing so interesting. It's not a fight that will go on forever, but it's very intense, accompanied by impressive jumps and endless rushes. The violence with which he attacks the lures matches his physique as a fearsome predator, and the power with which he bites the lure in an attempt to break it is incredible.

Barracuda fishing requires the use of strong hooks.

You'll need quality hooks and split rings, as the fish can easily twist them. The downside of this burst of energy is that the fish tire quickly, so you need to reel them in and set them free as quickly as possible.
