Description : a funny animal
Released in the year 2020, this half-creature/half-fine lure proposed by the Japanese brand OSP quickly became a reference for the backslide. With a size of 4.5" (11.5cm) for 11g thanks to the salt that its gum contains, it is therefore relatively dense. It has 8 appendages with a superb mobility during the descent and during the animation.

The lure also has a groove to perfectly position your hook and hide the tip of the hook with its notches. In this respect, I recommend the use of Zappu Bellows Hooks in size 4/0, whose shape, sharpness and strength of the iron are very well adapted to the needs of the technique and the profile of the lure.

Use
The Dolive Shot expresses its full potential in weightless, backslide or "conventional" (understand the head in front). Because of its density, it is not necessary to lead it to fish in less than 2m of water. Indeed, it goes down to 1 meter in 3.5 seconds just with a hook. If you wish to go deeper or faster, it is still possible to add an insert of 0.3g to 1.8g in the hole provided for this purpose at the head of the lure. This makes it easier to fish in windy conditions, with improved casting accuracy, ease of passing through the cover, triggering reaction bites, etc.
During the descent the lure swings gently while "slidding" on a horizontal plane. This results in a diagonal descent, the direction of which is defined by the direction in which the lure is mounted and enters the water. In classic weightless lures the lure will come back to the angler on the way down, while in backslide lures it will go the opposite way. The interest of this last technique is obviously to let the lure go in the cover, under foliage or pontoons. The bass posted in these structures will have a hard time resisting this presentation, especially in the summer period, when the water is warm and the apathetic fish are reluctant to be presented in any other way.

Concretely, when I fish in backslide, I throw as close as possible to my target (like a boat) or sometimes in the heart of the obstacle if it is a bush for example. Once the lure has hit the water, it is absolutely necessary to give it freedom by returning the line. Don't hesitate to get out of the banner, the less resistance there will be, the farther the lure will go away from you. Once the lure has hit the bottom or is sufficiently lowered, animate once or twice by small jerks, which will give volume with the appendages before the lure goes back to the backslide. This animation may trigger a reaction button, but very often the button occurs on the first descent, before any animation, so watch your banner carefully during the descent phases. To cover a bit more ground, you can cut the descents with wide shots so that the lure moves over a longer distance.

The recommended equipment
Although this is weightless fishing, the close proximity of the cover requires the use of a relatively powerful rod and a strong line. Although this lure can be used with a M/MH type spinning, the risk of breakage during the fight is too high. It is therefore strongly recommended to use a casting rod MH to H, the one you use for the texas rig or jig for example. In addition to the precision brought by a casting combo, you will have a real control during fights in a crowded environment.
Concerning the line, a fluorocarbon line body of 14 to 20lb (32 to 38/100 approx.) is recommended depending on the size of the spot. In addition to the abrasion resistance and the drastic reduction in the number of breakages, the fluoro allows good keystroke detection when descending in a relaxed banner thanks to its high density. One can thus often feel a real "discharge" in the fluoro, which will transmit all the inertia of the suction. Moreover the lure is totally sucked in most of the time but you can nevertheless give back a little bit of the hand before sending a rather strong and ample strike. It is not necessary either to strike too much, the flexible material allows to easily release the single hooks.
Little trick When your Dolive Shot is too damaged to continue to be used as a backslide following captures, keep it to use it in the normal direction (eyelet on the head side). The same lure will often allow you to use it until the "end" of the two different ways.
