The role of attractants
For us lure fishermen, the goal of the game is to succeed in fooling the fish with a piece of plastic, metal or wood, which we will try to make as attractive as possible.
Often, when we choose a lure, we pay attention to the size, the color, the swimming action, but we sometimes forget the olfactory side. They usually smell of plastic, wood, metal or varnish, this slight odor does not prevent catching fish. So why use attractant?
Let's be clear, the attractant is not a miracle recipe, it is not a magic potion! It is not enough to put attractant on your lure to catch fish.

This tool is an additional asset that will allow our lure to be even more attractive. The lure leaves a scent trail in the water. The scent can activate the fish that will follow the trail left by the lure.
It also allows our rig to be more easily spotted by predators in murky water. Finally, most importantly, the lure offers quality bites, the fish keep the lure in their mouths longer. If the lure has no taste or a strong smell of plastic, the fish will quickly spit it out.

Different types of attractants and their uses
The attractant is an odorant solution that can be chemical or natural depending on the brand. It can be composed, of molecules of synthesis, hormonal derivatives, amino acid, marine oilâeuros¦ They are found in liquid form in spray, gel or waxy paste.
Some lures, such as the famous "Gulp" from Berkley, are packaged directly in jars of liquid attractants. The "Sawamura one up", which is also a formidable lure, is soaked in the famous Trump attractant, the company that distributes it, Ultimate Fishing, also offers the "Sawamura Trump" attractant in a bottle.

Also among my favorites is the Keitech brand of soft lures impregnated with salt and oil that smell like squid.

The liquid spray attractant is quick and easy to apply, on any type of lure, even directly in the pouch, but it does not last as long in the water. The gel or oily paste attractant is the most durable solution. It is enough to brush the lures which will remain impregnated for a longer period, generally between one week and one month depending on the use.
