Fishing with natural bait
Pagre fishes very well with natural baits. You can use sardines, live bait (orphies or chipirons), squid or worms (bibi) on rigs presented flush with the bottom. When fishing vertically with natural baits, you can also bait with a sardine basket, letting the bait drop close to the bottom; bridle gently to hook without unhooking. The straggler, cast behind the boat, targets chasing pikeperch with squid or chipirons stacked on fine hooks.
Support fishing and grazing
Support and graze fishing requires intensive baiting at depth with chopped sardines to attract fish. The sardines are rigged with treble hooks or circle hooks, leaded to stay close to the rocky bottom. This technique excels in the Mediterranean and Atlantic, particularly on wrecks.

Lure fishing
Vertical and jigging
Pagfish can be caught by vertical fishing and jigging, two ideal techniques close to seagrass beds or rocky areas. Fishing with inchiku or tenya (with shrimp dried on a lead head), as well as madai or tai jig, are ideal for targeting paddlefish. For the lead, count about 1 gram per metre of water prospected. The animation is rather slow, with ample pulls and above all a controlled descent. Bites often occur on the way down. You can also use tapered shads or kaburas with a progressive lift.
Light jigging in casting
You can also fish for pikeperch with light jigs, preferably in casting. Use soft lures (such as the Crazy Sand Eel) or light jigs in an elevator or vertical action. Alternate take-offs from the bottom and controlled descents to imitate slow prey and whet the pike's appetite.âeurosâeuros
Slow trolling
Slow-trawl fishing is done with a downrigger or monel line. A variety of livebaits are used, such as garfish, squid or snapper, which are trolled at slow speed (2-4 knots) on or near drop-offs. An effective technique for finding the biggest specimens.âeuros

Common advice
Remember to use a fluorocarbon leader (invisibility), fine braid (0.12-0.18 mm), and sensitive rods (tenya or jigging 50-150 g).
As a reminder, the catch size limit in France is 45 cm.
