Weekly material / Jackall/Illex Slick Bait: designed for black bass fishing!

Jackall innovates with the Slick bait! © likid fishing

It's no secret that carnivores feed on dead, injured or diseased fish. With its realism and unusual swimming action, the Slick Bait allows you to imitate this type of prey as closely as possible.

Jackall is one of those brands that is constantly innovating, and once again, with the Slick Bait, it's done so successfully!

Slick Bait

The Slick Bait is a hard lure with an articulated tail made of soft plastic and silicone filaments running across it. The purpose of these devices is to give maximum movement, make the lure come alive and emit vibrations, even, and above all, when it's stationary.
In fact, this lure is designed above all to work motionless, which is particularly effective on black bass.

Slick Bait mixes hard and soft plastic.
What makes the Slick Bait so special is its three line attachment points. The point under the nose brings the lure back into the retrieve line. Without animation, the lure swims rather stiffly, but if you apply short strokes with the rod low, the lure starts jerking dryly and erratically.
As for the other two attachment points, located on each side, they make the lure swim sideways. To animate the lure, place the rod upwards and slightly jerk the tip to obtain the best swimming action.

There are 3 line attachment points.
In all cases, swimming should be accompanied by long pauses, because that's the whole point of this lure: to swim in a disorderly fashion, interspersed with pauses. The aim is to imitate a dying fish.
The lure is rigged with a treble hook protected on each side by plastic fins. These have an aesthetic role, and also help to limit tangling.

Six colors are available to suit the needs of freshwater fishing. One or two darker, black-bass-oriented colors would have been welcome.

Use

The aim of the Slick Bait is to imitate a dead or dying fish. As a result, you can leave it floating without animating it, or gently reel it in while making it twitch. What's more, depending on the attachment point chosen, the lure moves sideways when retrieved, which can be very interesting for catching fish while staying out of their field of vision.
This is a lure that requires patience and a little practice to get the best out of it, it allows you to fish precise spots, slowly, and to decide recalcitrant fish.

My opinion

The lure is beautiful, with a good finish, as always with Jackall, and an unusual and very relevant concept. However, its durability seems limited by the plastic tail and silicone filaments, which in my opinion limits its use to black-bass fishing.
What's more, this multitude of plastics may sooner or later react badly to contact with other plastic lures, so it's vital to store it with care, avoiding hazardous mixtures. Fortunately, an extra tail is included.
Be that as it may, it's one of the lures you need if you want to do well on educated or clever fish, especially black bass, which respond very well to non-animated lures. If there were only one to recommend, it would definitely be the Nf Ayu color!
