Recommended equipment
a spinning rod from 2.40 to 3 m, with a light to medium action (10âeuros40 g) for long-range casting and small sea rigs.
A reel size 2500 to 4000 fitted with 25 to 30/100 nylon or fine braid (10 to 15/100) with a 25-30/100 nylon or fluorocarbon leader for discretion.
Hooks n°8 to 12 of the small iron forts type, mounted in a machine gun (hook train) or in a simple leader with a small terminal lead, as for mackerel fishing for example.âeuros
Basic assemblies
The famous "machine gun" montage:
One main line body + short (5 to 10 cm) spaced tippets, each with a small hook topped with a feather, shiny strip or small piece of fish, worm or shrimp.
A terminal sinker (20âeuros60 g depending on depth and drift speed) allows you to descend into the bank and fish vertically or in cast-rod mode.
The simple line assembly:
A line body, fitted with a small olive sinker or a few split shot sinkers, a 60 to 100 cm leader and a single hook (piece of fish, shrimp, sea worm).
You let it sink, then animate it with gentle tugs as if you were fishing with a jig or light casting.âeuros

Prospecting techniques
To dedicate yourself to allache fishing, the first thing to do is find the shoals.
Observe surface hunting, seabirds and areas of eddies or darker water, typical of schools of small pelagics.
Prospect by drifting or fanning out around the boat/dike, varying swimming depths.
Entertainment
With a submachine gun: let down, then lift up in short, even bursts, rod high, to butterfly the stacks.
With natural baits: let the line work in the current, lifting slightly from time to time, like a classic sea angling. âeuros

Baits and lures
Effective natural bait:
Slices of sardine, allache, mackerel, shrimp, marine worms.
Cut into small, thin pieces to keep them moving, and tie or prick them at the end to prevent them from tearing too quickly.
Lures :
Feathers, shiny skins, mini spoons or small jigs weighing 10 to 30 g work well on saw-toothed shoals.
The silver, white and blue/green colors mimic the usual allache prey.
Braking and fighting
Set the drag soft enough not to tear the mouth, especially when fishing schools where several fish can be caught at once.
Work the cane with gentle pumping, without brutally bridling.âeuros
Respect for fish
Limit your catch to that which will be consumed, return undersized fish to the water, and handle quickly with wet hands or a fine landing net.
