The impact of tides on fishing
During new moons and full moons, known as spring tides, the tides are stronger, creating powerful currents that stimulate the feeding activity of fish such as sea bass, sea bream and mullet, which take advantage of these water movements to feed even more. The rising tide is particularly favourable for fishing, as it attracts fish to areas rich in food and increases their activity.
A story of luminous intensity
Lunar light intensity also has an impact on fish behavior. During a full moon, light levels are high, making fish more wary as they are more visible to predators, thus reducing their appetite during the day. On the other hand, during a new moon, the nights are very dark, making it easier for certain nocturnal species to emerge and feed. Anglers must therefore adapt to these changing conditions, for example by using discreet baits under a full moon, or by taking advantage of a new moon for intensive night fishing. Between these extremes, quarter moons bring lower tides (neap tides), making fishing more technical but sometimes more targeted.

Adjust your fishing to the moon
In this way, the moon influences fishing practice by modifying fish behaviour via the amplitude of the tides and night light. The most experienced anglers adjust their techniques and schedules according to lunar phases to optimize their results and catches. Understanding this influence helps to increase the chances of success at sea, particularly by planning trips during the rising tides on new and full moons, or on the night of new moons, when fish are more active and less wary.
To plan an outing, it is advisable to use a lunar calendar combined with tide schedules. The angler should identify periods of full or new moon, corresponding to spring tides, and favour the hours around the incoming tide. Understanding currents will enhance the ability to target areas where fish are concentrated and active. By adjusting your techniques according to lunar luminosity (for example, fishing more at dawn or dusk when the moon is full, and more at night when the moon is new), you maximize your chances of success.

The moon indirectly conditions catches through a complex interaction between gravity, tides, light and fish behavior. Mastering these parameters is essential for efficient, fine sea fishing, especially in areas of high variation.
