Recommended techniques for searching for gilthead bream
- On board: surfcasting on beaches, dykes, estuaries or rocky bottoms. Use very fresh natural baits (bibi, American worm, crab, knife, mussel, cordelle...).
- A la calée : with a sliding rig with sinker and long leader; prefer foam, edges, stony areas and posidonia meadows where sea bream find their food.
- By boat : support fishing on bottoms of 10 to 40 meters, near drop-offs or posidonia.
- Lures: a possible technique in mouths and harbours, but less selective than natural bait.
- Isolated fishing : float fishing close to the rocks, effective all year round, especially in summer when tourist pressure is high.

The best moments of the day
Dawn and dusk are excellent times to look specifically for gilthead bream. Sea bream feed actively during light changes.
Tides (even low ones in the Mediterranean) can have an impact on fishing. In addition, moderate winds favor the approach of fish to coastal stations.
Additional tips for success
In autumn and winter, prefer deeper areas accessible from the shore (dykes, steep beaches, harbours).
In summer, target little-frequented spots (coves or rocky bottoms by boat), adapting the size of bait and the discretion of the rig to the clarity of the water.
Adjust your fishing according to temperature and dorado activity: in very hot weather, use very cool baits and fish deeper; in rough seas, use stronger baits (crab, bibi).

To fish successfully for gilthead sea bream in the Mediterranean, favour spring and autumn, surfcasting and wedging techniques, food-rich areas such as rocky bottoms, and adapt bait and rig to the season and the target.
