The author

"Intertidal rocky coasts can be challenging environments for crabs, especially if they're exposed to waves. Crabs have only a short window of activity between tides to feed, and this can be shortened by heat, when rocks overheat in the sun. Shore crabs often find shelter under rocks and ledges, or in cracks and crevices. Residual pools can be refuges if they are low on the shore, otherwise the water often becomes too warm and salty..."
