No-kill fishing for small liches from the shore, a very sporty fish

Liche are generally caught from boats, using heavy tackle to target large individuals. However, smaller fish also approach the coast in autumn and can be fished no-kill from shore.

Which zones to choose?

It is well known that the liche is a fish that is not found everywhere. It tends to head for the mouths of small and large rivers to feed on the prey it can find there. Obviously, large rivers concentrate more large fish than small ones, but if you want to go after small fish, both areas will be interesting. Large sandy beaches and harbours exposed to the sea are also hunting areas that the lich is particularly fond of. It's a fish that moves around a lot, so don't hesitate to travel long distances to find active fish.

Fishing strategy

When targeting liches from the shore, there are a few important points to bear in mind. Firstly, small liches are very aggressive fish during their periods of activity, but can be totally invisible during periods of low activity. They also move in small schools (usually 2 to 3 individuals) and the competition for food makes them all the more aggressive.

It's very important to fish fast, as too slow an animation often results in a spectacular rejection, as the lich quickly turns around the lure without grabbing it if it doesn't like it. The liche is often found in shallow water, roaming around in search of easy prey. Some beaches can be shallow over long distances, so it's important to fish as far out as possible and reach casting distances of up to 70 metres.

The best lures for searching for liches on the shore

Assuming we're going to target modest-sized fish, we don't need to burden ourselves with ultra-powerful rods and large lures. The aim of this type of fishing is to get the most bites, so we need lures that can swim fast and cast far. For those who like surface lures, poppers and stickbaits ranging from 7 to 11 cm will do the trick, although they are difficult to cast. My favourite lures are undoubtedly casting jigs and sinking swimfish. Both can be cast from a very good distance, can fish close to the bottom or near the surface, but above all are capable of swimming at high speed.
