Buff's story
More than 25 years ago, Joan Rojas, founder and creator of the Buff company, was looking for a garment that would cover his head and neck, while resisting the elements, during his bike rides.
Using his knowledge of knitting and a little innovation, Buff was born. The company, based in Barcelona, Spain, distributes its products in many countries, including France.
Having made its mark in fields such as hiking and cycling, anglers have adopted it too!

Multi-position choker
In simple terms, the Buff is nothing more or less than a fabric tube. However, this tube is really well designed when you take a closer look. It's seamless, so it's comfortable to wear and won't cause any discomfort or itching. The fabric is elastic, so it stays in place and doesn't slip.
The designs are numerous and original, some of them depicting fish or scales, and are clearly aimed at anglers.
The ways of wearing it are equally numerous. An explanatory diagram on the packaging shows all these possibilities, although generally speaking, for fishing, it's best to wear it as a choker.
It protects the neck, nose and ears. For complete head protection, combine with a hat and sunglasses.
UPF 50
The strength of this product lies in its UV protection. This protection comes from the fabric's composition, the tightness of the weave and the finish. This fabric is softer than normal microfiber and has the capacity to block 93% to 97% of harmful ultraviolet rays.
Having used it for years, and tested it for several weeks under the sun in countries close to the equator, I can assure you that its UV protection does a really good job.
Not only to block UV rays, but also to wick moisture away from the skin. This eliminates the need for sunscreen, making protection easier and more effective.
4 seasons
This product should not be considered as being reserved for extreme conditions in destinations subject to strong sunlight. It is perfectly suited to fishing in Europe, notably to protect against UV reflection on the water.
All anglers are therefore likely to wear and adopt it, whether they're luring, fly-fishing, jigging, carping or any other technique that requires them to spend hours on the bank and on the water.
The Buff not only protects us from the sun, but also from wind, cold, mosquitoes and unpleasant odors. So, winter or summer, it's at home around our necks and quickly becomes indispensable.
Other alternatives?
Other brands offer similar products. You need to make sure they have at least the same properties, such as UV protection, moisture wicking, a certain elasticity (very important for comfort) and seamlessness.
Finally, if you decide to buy a choker, I suggest you take two, so you always have one available when the other is in the wash.
