When we see the Sleeper Gill, we are forced to think of the Dark Sleeper and we want to compare them. They do indeed have points in common, particularly in terms of their design, but their use is different.

Sleeper Gill
One of the similarities between the two Megabass lures is the hook hidden in the dorsal fin. This allows the lure to pass through obstacles and not snag grass or seaweed in its path.
The Sleeper Gill has an empty back, unlike the Dark Sleeper. This empty back allows you to clear the curve of the hook and thus reduce the risk of missed or unhooked fish. You can also take advantage of this area to place attractant.

Another common point that these lures share is the internal lead hidden in the lure. This one is a strong point as regards its discretion and its mimicry.
Moreover, this sinker is not only in the head, as it would be with a leaded head, but it is distributed in the front part of the body. This balance means that the lure doesn't sink head first when it is not retrieved, but it sinks in a semi-horizontal way, a bit gliding.
Thus, by bringing it back slowly, rod high, it is possible to fish shallow areas at low speed, without it wanting to dive, forcing the angler to compensate with a quick retrieve.

This is a lure that you can't really fish with in a pull, it's more designed to fish in a linear pattern or to make it jump in shallow to medium depths.
It is available in a single size and weight. It weighs 21 grams and is only 8 centimeters long, which allows you to reach great casting distances and to avoid the wind.

Even if it is only 8 centimeters, its shape is voluminous and showy. It looks like a sunfish, a family to which the sun perch belongs, which is a small fish that is the basis of the diet of many freshwater carnivores. Its caudal fin is much larger than that of the Dark Sleeper and it emits strong vibrations, both at low and high retrieve speeds.

My opinion
This Sleeper Gill has a similar design to the Dark Sleeper. Apart from this design, its shape and swimming action have little to do with it and these two lures should be approached separately.
It is a good complement to the Dark Sleeper, as the latter excels in dragging, i.e. sliding on the bottom, while the Sleeper Gill is better for swimming, i.e. linear swimming off the bottom.
This new lure is therefore ideal for fishing shallow areas with vegetation or rocks, where black bass prefer. In the sea, it seems to me perfect for fishing for bass on rocky areas at high tide. It is not to be neglected either for slow vertical fishing, in search of zander, because it represents a realistic prey with its lead and its hidden hook.
This novelty is a good surprise, which can be swum everywhere without fear of losing it. Moreover, the lure is already available in 12 interesting colors, including Mat Tiger, Ayu and Corlazo, exclusive French colors, perfect for our waters.

The Gill sleeper is a lure that I would definitely recommend to beginners, as it is simple to use and durable! As long as you don't use it to fish for pike, it is capable of catching a good number of fish.
The Dark Sleeper concept has given birth to a new lure that is just as interesting, if not more so: the Sleeper Gill! With once again, Yuki Ito at the origin of the design.
