Meeting between fly fishermen
18 participants came from the 3 Breton departments (22, 56, 29) to brave the winter conditions (east wind and persistent cold) at the edge of the very beautiful 9-hectare Etang Neuf reservoir located in the commune of Saint-Connan (22) managed by the Côtes d'Armor Fishing Federation.
Some members of the Arzano Fly Club, Kreizh Breizh Fly Club and Etang Neuf Fly Club were present, as well as some non-club anglers, including myself.
A competition in 6 rounds, from the shore and in a boat
6 rounds (3 per half-day) of 45 minutes were planned, one part from the shore from the many pontoons built around the lake and the other in two-man boats (6).
The trout will be counted and measured. Each trout is worth 1 point if it is less than 50 cm and 2 points for trout over 50 cm. The total length can be used to determine the number of points awarded to each angler.
After a briefing in the premises of the animation pole (made available) and the documents (plans, rotation of the heats) distributed, the "competitors" mounted their rods and then went to the posts waiting for the bugle! Start of the first round at 9:15 am.
Active and fighting trout
From the first minutes, the fish answered present. The bites were rather discreet at the beginning of the morning then the trout activated and made well bend the carbon.
Booby fishing will be the most exciting technique, but fishing with intermediate lines or even floating with a streamer will bring in its share of trout.
I started my 3 runs from the shore on 3 different pontoons. Personally, I started fishing in intermediate with two streamers. A black streamer in tip and an orange streamer in stem. Both took. The trout were in the edges and moving. Having spotted them, I hooked a few very close to the bank. I quickly landed 3 trout, which was a bit annoying but that's the game! Then the bites continued, which allowed me to "bring in" a few fish and relax a bit! Then I tried boobies with a 3 flies rig of different sizes and colors. It was necessary to alternate between very slow fishing and micro-animation and fast fishing with rolly-polly by passing by a mixture of the two. Other fish came in the net.
In the afternoon, I alternated between the two techniques, but it is especially or bottom that we caught the fish. Sometimes very discreet touches and others more brutal. The fish continued to bite but it was necessary to find the fishing.
No color that really stands out, except maybe the black. But the pink, chartreuse, orange and white thwarted the suspicion of the very combative trout.
A few breaks and many stalls with these trout which jumped and especially gave big blows of head. Without a barb, it is not forgivable! Some will pick up more than 10 trout, even more.
A successful friendly meeting between enthusiasts
A total of 182 trout were caught during this very cold day, but where the trout were very active from the beginning to the end. In the afternoon, it was necessary to adapt and change constantly the color, the distance and the size of the flies, the animations, to make the trout crack.
The trout measured between 40 and 54 cm ("big fish" caught by Dominique and Trève).
The podium will be made up as follows:
- 1 er with 31 trout and 35 points, Jean-Baptiste Vidal âeuros Enjoy Fishing
- 2 ème with 17 trout and 20 points, Youenn.
- 3 ème with 19 trout and 19 points, Thierry.
The prizes were provided by the Ardent Pêche store and the Fédération de pêche 22.
A beautiful sunny day, very well organized, in a friendly and convivial atmosphere on this beautiful reservoir well stocked.
All participants caught some nice trout and had a great time.
