A nice pike from the alpine lakes

Pro-Staff #1 - William Bordignon fishes for big pike in alpine lakes and is an ambassador for several brands: Daiwa, Amiaud and Lowrance. A fishing enthusiast who knows how to adapt and modify his approaches.

Hello Will, can you introduce yourself to the readers of Fishing.news?

William Bordignon - Hello, I am 42 years old, I grew up in Annecy and have been living near Lyon for ten years. I fish the big alpine lakes, the Rhône river and the rivers around. I also do some sea fishing several times a year.

I am attracted by all fishing techniques, but fishing for big pike in Big bait is my favorite. Depending on the season and the weather conditions I adapt the species and my fishing spots.

For example:

  • Winter on the Rhone for pikeperch.
  • The beginning of spring in the river, I swallow miles to track trout.
  • From May to August on the big lakes in search of pikes.
  • And from September to November, it's crazy at sea or for catfish fishing.

Can you tell us about your early days in fishing?

William Bordignon - I started fishing at the age of 10 with my family, my father had introduced us to fishing for small sun perch on the edge of a small lake. I got the "fishing virus" that day!

The following years, I surveyed the rivers of Haute-Savoie to take trout with natural toc by refining the technique over the seasons.

In the summer, we were at the lake with a whole team of friends trying to catch perch to exchange them for a little money, so we could buy fishing equipment.

At the age of 15, I discovered the carp, the technique was in full boom. In Dijon, at that time for my studies, I was at the same time surrounded by famous gravières for carp. I did enduros in the following years with some podiums and beautiful memories.

In 2007, I met my partner Tof, it was the beginning of incredible carp fishing sessions, then we focused on carnivores in 2009...

When, how and why did you agree to be a Pro-Staff?

William Bordignon - The sponsoring started with Tof who was already in this field at Purefishing under the brand JRC carp. So I joined him in the adventure. Then our friend Laurent took the direction of Mitchell and made us the honor to integrate us in his project to reassemble this emblematic brand of French origin. The adventure ended a few years later with the Purefishing group.

We join the Amiaud team in 2018 to provide support for the development of the PikenBass float tubes, which still accompany us today.

In 2019, I will have the honor to join the prestigious Japanese brand Daiwa as a Field-Tester. The goal is to test a wide range of equipment by putting it to the test through our sometimes intensive fishing sessions, to promote the brand with photo or video content and to be able to give feedback on improvements if there are to be made to a product.

I am fortunate to have Lowrance as well, who equipped me with an echo sounder and an electric motor.

What does being an ambassador mean to you?

William Bordignon - Of course, this is not my job, I am not paid by the brands. In return I have the chance to use the equipment provided by the brand during my fishing trips.

I am an electrician by trade and fishing is a passion. Being a Pro-Staff is a real plus to live my passion and bring my experience, also to give the desire to the youth to practice fishing.

What is your best memory, or anecdote, as a Pro-Staff to share with our readers?

William Bordignon - I have tons of great memories during fishing trips. And during the Daiwa Aveyron this summer, we took a group of passionate teenagers, you should have seen this kid the joy he had when he caught his first pike following our advice. It's beautiful!

How do you see the fishing industry in France?

William Bordignon - Fishing in France still has good days, some environments unfortunately suffer, but we have very beautiful fish in our lakes and rivers. On the other hand, the fishing pressure is strong in some places, we must know how to adapt and modify our approaches sometimes to get results.

Any advice for anglers who want to join a Pro-Staff team one day?

William Bordignon - The only advice I can give to young people who want to join a brand one day is above all to have fun on the water without putting any constraints on results.
