Casting is now a popular technique in France. Unfortunately, many beginner anglers still refuse to try it, often because they are afraid of the difficulty of learning.

Equip yourself intelligently

Casting fishing, straight from the United States, consists in using a spinning reel. This reel will be placed on the top of the rod unlike the classic spinning. To start fishing in casting is not always obvious, to facilitate our learning, several rules must be respected. The choice of equipment is very important, starting casting with light fishing is almost impossible. Heavier sets are much easier to use and are perfect for learning the basics. In fresh water, sets dedicated to pike fishing will allow you to learn more quickly.

Adapting your budget

Fishing equipment, whether spinning or casting, is often expensive. In spinning, a good rod will guarantee you better sensations and longer casting distances. The reel is only used as a spare line when learning. On the contrary, in casting, the rod is just an extension of your arm. It is the reel and the quality of its bearings that will allow you to learn to master casting, as well as to obtain long casting distances. When selecting equipment, the budget for the reel should be about 75% of the total price of the package. For example, if your total budget is 200 euros, choose a rod at 50 euros and a reel at 150 euros. Low-end reels have no casting aid technology and create frustration when wigging on every cast.

Some tips to know

Casting techniques are totally different from spinning techniques. It is the speed of rotation of the reel that will dictate whether the cast is successful. Too fast and the reel will spin out of control and make a wig, too slow and the distance reached will be too short. To be successful, several factors come into play. Most reels have two spool brakes, one magnetic and one centrifugal, located on the sides of the reel.

The tighter they are, the shorter your casting distance, but the less chance of a wig. Your thumb also acts as an impact brake, when the lure hits the water, you must stop the rotation of the reel so that it does not continue in its momentum and create a wig. Finally, the movement of your body when casting should be as fluid as possible. Movements that are too abrupt are sure to cause the reel to spin out of control. To cast far, strength is not an asset. Be gentle and do not try to whip as hard as possible, your movements should be wide.
