Autumn, as well as spring, are the best periods for pike fishing. However, fishing is not always easy and it is often necessary to find the right pattern to make a successful fishing trip.

The fall context
The fall season is often synonymous with poor weather conditions. Rain, gray skies and wind often accompany our outings. If this context is not always pleasant, it is on the other hand favorable to fishing and to the activity of predators.
Overcast and windy conditions disturb the surface of the water and reduce the brightness of the environment. In addition, they generate an ambient noise because of the waves and the surf on the edges. Finally, the suspension of particles encourages preys to feed and pikes follow logically.
In this context, the preys are exposed and the predators can hunt while being as discreet as possible, because less visible and audible. In these conditions, we can observe regularly important peaks of activity.

Jerkbaits, the lure of the fall
In these conditions, jerkbaits are often very effective lures. I take them out in priority. Indeed, they have the particularity to move a large volume of water and are often equipped with a large ball. These characteristics make them visible and audible from a distance. Associated with flashy colors, they have no equal to make pikes crack already very angry.
Moreover, a large volume of water displaced and a deep sound are for the predators the synonym of a big prey and especially at this period it is exactly what they look for. Because the fry of the year are obviously already well grown, but especially because it allows them to get a lot of energy in a single capture.

Allows to prospect large areas
Jerkbaits are often aerodynamic lures with a heavy weight and a ball that sometimes acts as a mass transfer. Thus they have the particularity to be launched very far and allow then to prospect large spaces quickly.
The key is rhythm
When fishing with jerkbaits, if the basic animation consists in making a succession of jerks to make the lure swim from right to left, it is however important to make pauses, because it is very often at this precise moment that the pike decides to place its attack.
During an outing, it is therefore important to find the right rhythm: the frequency and duration of breaks. It is this parameter which will transform an ordinary outing into an exceptional moment...
